The trustees present their report with the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2023.
OBJECTIVES & ORGAMSATION
The League of Friends of Warrington Hospital was founded on 12 December 1963 and is registered with the
Charity Commission. No 242506.
The League of Friends was established for charitable purposes only, and its objectives are as follows:
To aid the comfort and wellbeing of all patients and to mobilise, encourage, foster and maintain the
interest of the publi¢ in th¢ patients and the support of the work of the hospital, by means of voluntary
service.
To maintain the relations and associations which exist between voluntary bodies and the hospital; and
to provide opportunities for such voluntary bodies to continue their activities for the benefit of the
hospital.
Actively to pursue the raising and provision of the funds for the purpose of supplementing, in such
manner as the League thinks fiL the Tesources of the hospital service.
The recruitment of voluntary workers for the L£ague of Friends of Warrington Hospital.
To co-operate with all other bodies for the benefIt of th¢ hospital service.
To encourage inter communication and c(Foperation with the other League of Hospital Friends or with
other similar bodies.
To do all such other things as are incidental or conductive to the attainment of the above objects or any
of them.
The management of the League of Friends is under the control of the Committee.
REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES
The results for the year and the financial position of the charity are as shown in the annexed financial statements.
During 2023 the League of Friends received a totsl income of £42,605 from:

Legacies
The principal fund raising activities of the League during 202) were the weekly lottery, which made a net surplus
of £855, and table top sales held throughout the year which made a total net surplus of £2,364. The balance of
income was raised by ad hoc fund raising events.
Donations were received throughout the year from members of the public and local organisations. The total
donated was £33,041.

The trustees are the elected officers of the Committee.
VOLUNTEER SUPPORT
In common with many organisations in the voluntary sector, the charity receives much valuable support fi.om its
volunteers. We gratefully acknowledge the support and continued contribution of our volunteers with their wide
ranging input to our work.
RESERVES POLICY
It is the policy of the charity to hold reserves in its unrestricted fund in order to establish an appropriate level of
working capital and protect the future operations of the charity from the effects of any unforeseen and material
variations in its income streams, as part of the policy of good financial management practice.
STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES, RESPONSIBILrrKES
The trustees are responsible for preparing the financial sLqtements in accordance with applicable law and United
Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
Charity law requires the trustees to prepare the financial statements for each financial year which give a t￿e and
fair view of the state of the financial activities of the charity and of its financial position at the year end. In
preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently"
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudenL
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity
will continue business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time
the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Chai'ities
Act 1993. They are also responsible for safe(vuarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for
the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

I. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and follow the recommendations
in the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting by Charities.
Income
All donations and gifts are included in full in the statement of financial activities when receivable.
Investment income is recognised when receivable.
Tangible fixed assets
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.

Expenditure, which is charged on the accruals basi4 is allocated between:
expenditure incurred directly to the fulfilment of the charity's objectives (direct charitsble).

Grants
Grants are made for the benefit of the patients. staff and visitors of the Wa￿IngtOn Hospital.
Applications for grants are made by the wa￿ingtOn Hospital and are then considered and, if considered appropriate,
approved by the Committee before grant is made.
Fund accounting
The general ￿nd is considered to be unrestricted and comprises all incoming resources received or generated for
expenditure on the general objectives of the Charity.
