C. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Public Benefit Statement

The Trustees and Committee have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on providing a Public Benefit.

The primary aim of the CIL is the spiritual welfare of the members of the Central Christadelphian community. In supporting and encouraging them this has benefits for the wider community in which they live in that the aim is to promote Christ-like behaviour towards all.

Anyone who comes into contact with a Christadelphian and would like to learn more of their beliefs and is unable to attend a Christadelphian meeting place is eligible to receive the services of the CIL. The ones that are most suitable are first principle Bible studies, Sunday School lessons and, where appropriate, Braille material.

Available Services and Activities

The services offered include the following:

The Secretary makes arrangements for any of these services to be provided on request and welcomes offers of help, particularly for the Correspondence Section and the Sunday School.

D. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

Details of the activities of the Christadelphian Isolation League (CIL) for 2024 are contained in pages 4 to 12 of this report.

Introduction – Stephen Fifield

By the time you read this Donald Trump should have been inaugurated as president of the USA. Who would have thought it possible? We need to remember none of this is in our control. God puts men in these positions. We do not know why but must marvel at the outworking of God’s purpose.

The Prophecy of Daniel showed the conflict between the kingdom of men and the kingdom of God. The assurance we have is that God rules in the kingdom of men, and ultimately, He will prevail over the pride and arrogance of men and establish His Kingdom (Daniel 2:44). Nebuchadnezzar was like men today, filled with an inflated sense of his own importance, glorying in human achievement (Daniel 4:30), seeing the nations in human form (Daniel 2:31).

The image spoke to Nebuchadnezzar of human power and dominion. Daniel’s vision saw the nations from the divine perspective – wild beasts of the earth rending one another in their desire to achieve supremacy.

We can be assured wherever we find ourselves in the world, alone in isolation, whatever is happening, we know God is at work and will bring to pass all that He has promised, the establishment of His Kingdom.

Exhortation Section – Roderick Titley

The CIL exhortation section continues to source exhortations for those brethren and sisters in isolation, relying on the commitment of approximately one hundred and fifty brethren who contribute material every three years. These exhortations are available in not only English but also in a number of other languages, ably translated by a group of dedicated brothers and sisters who quietly work behind the scenes. This has brought with it a number of translation issues, particularly English idioms and phrases that we, as English speakers, find easy to understand but can be difficult to translate

Page 3

CIL ANNUAL REPORT 2024

into other languages. Because of this, brethren who contribute material are requested to write in simple, straightforward sentences with the aim of making the job of translation easier and in the majority of cases this is achieved. So let us continue to pray for the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ when different languages will no longer be a problem because God will, “turn to the people a pure language that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent” (Zephaniah 3:9).

Bible Study Section – Stephen Lockyer

Another year has flown by. The team has continued to support our brethren and sisters in isolation, by distributing weekly Bible studies. These are sent in a number of formats, including large print and Braille. Thus, they represent a valuable resource for the wider community; isolation can take many forms. The work has continued uninterrupted during the past year and our thanks go to all who have shared in this labour of love; those who provide the studies, those who prepare them for printing, those who print and distribute. And not forgetting those who translate into other languages, making them understandable for those who have not only a different tongue, but also a different cultural background; they give the sense, so that the people understand the reading (Neh 8:8).

The programme for 2025 follows the same format as previous years, giving a mix of study across Old and New Testaments and covering a wide range of different topics, aligned where possible with the Daily Reading Plan. We are already well into this programme. The extent of the work involved in preparing the papers for distribution means we must work quite far in advance. Those providing the studies for January 2025, for example, were required to submit them during August 2024. Thanks again to all who share in this work, and to our Heavenly Father for his continuing blessing upon it.

ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE

Lecture Section – Mark Titley

This year the theme of the lectures is ‘In the Kingdom’ where the ambition has been to provide a series of papers that bring into focus the wonder of GOD’s promised Kingdom on this earth. Titles such as ‘Justice in the Kingdom’ and ’Service in the Kingdom’ aim to strengthen us all while we wait, in showing the stark contrast between the dire state of the world today and the coming righteousness of GOD’s Kingdom.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the brethren who have written papers to date and those that have agreed to write in the future. Sharing their hopes and visions of the future age is something I pray will comfort all those who read the lecture papers, wherever they might be in the world and in whatever situation they find themselves in. My thanks also go to those that translate the papers and the work that goes into packing and posting them out to recipients.

We pray that the return of Christ is very soon and that the calamities of this age are brought to an end by our Saviour Jesus Christ as he rules from a Jerusalem at peace.’

Sunday School – Ben Clarke

During 2024, 40 youngsters attended Youth Week at new accommodation in Somerset. The studies were led by Brother Nathan Walker on the theme

Page 5

CIL ANNUAL REPORT 2024 ~~a~~

“The Second Exodus?”. Those who attended the week found it very profitable and a lot of new friendships were formed. Looking forward to 2025, In February, Bro Nathan Walker is due to lead our studies at a reunion on 21st - 23rd February at The Boundless Outdoor Centre. In August Bro Nicholas White is leading our studies at another new venue (Llanmadoc) in South Wales for a full week. Bookings for both will be going out shortly. A big thank you to Bro Chris and Sis Laura Parkin and Bro Phil and Sis Jayne Crossley who continue to help us novices in leading the time away we have with our youngsters.

There have been a couple of new CIL Sunday School students who have joined in the last couple of months. It is encouraging that when people are thinking about their children that conversations they are having within the brotherhood is pointing them in the right direction. We thank our many teachers who continue their dedicated work in teaching the young in the Way of Life. During the course of the year we have once again been pleased to hear of a few baptisms of our students and we thank our Heavenly Father we have been able to help those young people find the way of salvation.

, Braille Section – Philip & Ruth Noakes

CIL Braille magazines are sent all over the world as well as providing the weekly Exhortations and Bible Studies along with monthly Lectures replicating the printed material. In addition, Large Print CIL papers are available for which we have 6 recipients. Our other resource is the Braille Library (190 volumes) held at Olivet, Birmingham comprising Bibles, Christadelphian book resources and hymn books. There is a small library at Mbengwi, Cameroon, but this area is in the middle of the civil war and its status has not been verified since early 2019.

Two long serialisations continue in the monthly magazines, viz.: “Israel - Land and People of Destiny” in The Light and “God’s Living Word” in Gleanings.

Page 6

ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE

We continue to ask if you know anyone who reads braille and is interested in the Bible to offer them the bi-monthly “Gleanings” magazine, and also be aware of the Large Print copies of CIL papers which are a service we can readily switch on and off as the need arises. Large Print is on yellow paper, which increases the contrast for those with a degree of visual impairment.

The dependable work of all the team is greatly appreciated. Although we rarely hear back from recipients we are committed to providing these materials as a reliable source of encouragement in spiritual matters.

The Scottish Braille Press (part of Sight Scotland) continues to provide a reliable, quality service to us transcribing and printing the magazines for which we are very grateful.

Braille Section Statistics

Braille material goes to 11 countries in Africa (Egypt, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe) - 138 copies (We have recommenced sending 2 copies to Cameroon).

2 countries in the Americas (Bahamas & USA) - 8 copies.

5 countries in other overseas countries (Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka) - 38 copies. United Kingdom (England only) - 3 copies. Print runs: The Light - 176, Gleanings -183. Braille Section workers are 6.

Ireland – Stephen Fifield

Visits to Ireland have continued during 2024 with brethren and sister being present for 75% of the Sundays and CIL Meet Zoom meetings being held the other weeks. We have this year started weekend visits which have proved very beneficial, as even though these are short visits they are face to face which supports the spiritual welfare of those in Dublin and in Isolation in Ireland. A week visit entails presiding, possibly exhorting twice on a Sunday, and looking after the Bible class together with any other meetings arranged during the stay.

Those who go over for longer periods of time have been able to visit those in Isolation. We aim to maintain contact with those in isolation by visiting them in person, at least once a month. It may not be appreciated that a visit of two to three weeks may involve travelling nearly 1700 miles through visiting those in Isolation and the ecclesias at Belfast and Waterford. The distances from Dublin are all 2 to 4-hour journeys. Sometimes you can try to link visits to reduce the travel, but this does not always work out! Work in Ireland is not without difficulties and yes, it is tiring but it is beneficial and uplifting to all involved. Frequently, Brethren & Sisters who spend time in Dublin finish their visit by expressing how they have enjoyed the fellowship in the precious Hope we share together.

Recordings Library / Listening Panel – Cedric & Esther Shearn

2024 has been another really quiet year, we have not loaned any tapes or CD’s and have only sold 30 CD’s. We continue to upload new material as and when it has been through the vetting process. The website continues to be made good use of and is the main source of use.

The listening panel is working well, but as previously any additional members residing in West Yorkshire would be most helpful. The task involves listening to content and quality of addresses and sound reproduction and noting on a suitable form. There seems to be no call for the loan or sale of cassette tapes, we have therefore decided that from early 2025 we will no longer offer cassette tape recordings as part of the service. As always we are on the lookout for suitable good quality recordings, cassette tapes, CD/DVD or audio and video files. Please contact us if you have any recordings that we could use.

Page 8

ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE

Central Records – Mark Webb

The main work of the Central Records Section is to maintain a database of recipients and workers so that labels can be produced for the distribution of various printed items of CIL material. These labels are obtained using the information stored in a computer database. The records stored are for those that receive the printed services of the league and those that work for the League (All exhortations, lectures and bible studies are also available on the Isolation league website).

Most of the labels printed are for distribution of Lectures, Exhortations, and Bible Study papers in both English and Russian languages. Labels are printed for the material sent out directly from the UK by the distribution teams in South Wales. The records are updated regularly from information that is received by letter, telephone and predominantly email. This resulted in around 270 changes being made during 2024. The number of recipients continues to fall, this has been influenced by brethren and sisters obtaining services directly from the website, overseas authorities charging import duties on material and many that joined during the coronavirus no longer requiring CIL exhortations. It has also been reported that some Russian material has been returned, having been open by the authorities.

GDPR rules introduced in 2019 continue to govern the handling of CIL data. Since a large proportion of the League’s expenses is in postal charges, it is essential that any known changes of addresses are reported as quickly as possible. Changes should be notified directly to the Central Records Section.

League Literature and Services are provided in the following overseas countries:

Antigua, Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Benin, Bulgaria, Burkino Faso, Canada, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Latvia, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldova, Mozambique, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Seychelles, South Africa, Spain, St Lucia, Swaziland, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tobago, Togo, Trinidad, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, United States, Zambia, Zimbabwe. oe Page 9

Website – Matt Barton

The website CIL Website (www.isolationleague.org) has been kept up to date with our latest articles, and has Exhortations, Lectures and Bible Studies going back to 2002. We also host the recordings of hymns by the Northern Christadelphian Choir, 139 of which are translated into Farsi. The Daily Readings (audio & text) are available in English and Farsi on our website as part of the CIL Recordings Library of over 4,000 talks.

We also have integrations with popular social media so it is easy to find links to our latest material, the daily readings and exhortations that might relate to the daily readings. These are available via email which was changed to a new email distribution service this year. There are also translations of Exhortations in French, Farsi, Russian and Swahili as PDF downloads, as well as some Lectures in French.

During 2024, a small team worked on French, Farsi, Polish & Russian translation of the website as a whole (with Swahili completed using machine translation). This work is ongoing but should result in a multi-lingual website in 2025, God Willing.

CIL Meet – Matt Barton Our online meeting service, CIL Meet, provides Zoom, Google Meet and Teams access to ecclesias ° @bmeet and other Christadelphian Organisations, with a simple access mechanism to run meetings using these platforms, and is in use around the world.

During 2024 we made freephone dial-in available on all CIL Meet rooms and created a free dial-out capability for all CIL Meet Rooms (so members could be added in by phoning them). One recording brother wrote “We’ve had an elderly couple join us who, through old age and ill health have been housebound for several years. They have been using CDs for exhortations. They do not have the internet and are not technically minded. We tried calling them in and it worked a treat. They were absolutely delighted to be able to participate in a meeting for the first time in several years.”

CIL Meet Statistics for 2024 (as of 24th November)

110 Ecclesias / Organisations on CIL Meet (up 16) 21,772 Meetings hosted

9,932 Participants spent a total of 8,410,845 minutes in meetings

53,158 Minutes of automatically translated captions used in 754 meetings

13 Freephone Numbers consuming 83,688 minutes of calls into Meetings

SOME MESSAGES OF APPRECIATION FROM ISOLATED BROTHERS AND SISTERS:

“I would like to say how much our small ecclesia appreciates the exhortations translated into Farsi which we use often throughout the year when we do not have a speaker.”

“Our thanks to you for the Zoom facility which has been and continues to be an excellent help. Made easier with your support so thanks for that.”

“Many thanks for all that you do on behalf of The Brotherhood. It is a wonderful work.”

“It has been such a boon having the phoning facility. Now one of our sisters attends Bible Class every week, which she has never done before. Thank you so much for all the amazing work you all do at the CIL”

“Receiving the daily readings direct to my email address is a great feature”

“Getting the Daily email means I look forward to doing the Readings- it is a daily contact and reminder... These personal touches are what are sadly fast disappearing these days.....I know they are automatically sent; but it doesn’t seem that way to folks on their own... it’s a little bit of ‘contact’, and a welcome reminder in these difficult days...”

“I was recently released from prison, all praise and thanks to God, I thank you and all at the Christadelphian Isolation League, for all of the wonderful literature you sent to me these past years, they have helped me a lot in my spiritual growth.”

ACCOUNTS

E. FINANCIAL REVIEW

The Statement of Financial Activities of the CIL for 2024 and the Balance Sheet at the 31 December 2024, together with associated explanatory notes, are given on pages 16-20 of this report.

Total Income

Total income fell by over £161,000 in the year largely due to a one- off £125,000 donation to assist with the costs in maintaining the flat in Dublin last year, coupled with an overall reduction in ecclesial and legacy donations of around £31,000.

Total Expenditure

Total expenditure from these funds saw a fall of 6.3%, of which the largest factor for this was a £10k CBM grant made last year which hadn’t been requested by CBM in this financial year.

General Fund

The General fund is the fund through which all the regular services of the CIL are paid. The major costs remain postage, printing, stationery and costs associated with hosting virtual meetings. Due to the above factors, the fund showed a deficit of £17,572 compared to a surplus of £1,981 for 2023.

Legacy Fund

The Legacy Fund finances most of the costs associated with less regular expenditure of the CIL e.g. equipment purchases, pastoral visits and Youth Week. This year saw a reported deficit of £27,991 as opposed to a deficit of £38,392 in 2023. The Committee has continued their commitment to using these funds as best as they can to help those in Isolation.

The Eire flat is funded through CIL donations along with collections and donations from the local area. This year saw a deficit of £13,249 for the period compared to a surplus of £129,618 in 2023 due to a one off donation from a building sale in that year.

Total Balances

The total balances at the end of the year decreased by £58,812 to £317,015.

Page 13

CIL ANNUAL REPORT 2024

Reserves Policy

The CIL does not have a formal reserves policy but the balances which are held in instant access accounts are such that they would meet the normal expenditure of the League for at least 12 months.

The committee would like to thank all ecclesias and individuals who have financially supported the CIL so generously during the year.

The Trustees declare that they have approved the enclosed Report.

On behalf of the Trustees,

David Harvey (Secretary) 27 February 2025

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE CHRISTADELPHIAN ISOLATION LEAGUE

I report on the accounts of the Christadelphian Isolation League for the year ended 31 December 2024, which are set out on pages 16 to 20.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. The charity is preparing accrued accounts and I am

Page 14

INDEPENDANT EXAMINER’S REPORT

qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of ACCA. It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
