William Martin Charity Annual report and activity 2022

a) Accounts

The accounts for the calendar year have been drawn up and audited by Peter Strong, and are attached as Appendix A. As the accounts conform to a set pattern which is not always easy to follow, the summary below is hopefully an easier description of what has taken place during the year.

Coif account

Brought forward £ 34278.56 Interest received £ 322.91 Paid out £ 0.00 Carried forward £ 34601.47

Barclays Account

Brought forward £12881.62 Dividend £ 128.61 Rent due from 2014-22 £28014.45 Expenditure £ 0.00 Carried forward £41024.68

TOTAL ASSETS

£75626.15 as at 31[st] December 2023

b) Activity

There has only been one significant development, in that the outstanding rent due from North Northamptonshire Council since 2014 has been paid. A sum of £28,014.45 was paid on 29[th] April and means that the bank account now has £41025 in it. In future, an annual payment of rent will be made in April each year (just over £3400). Together with the COIF investment account, the charity now has cash assets of £75626. This is insufficient to acquire any more property and the trustees may wish to consider how best to use the funds that we do have.

A discussion about pooling assets with the Sawyers Almshouses Trust has been opened, but no progress has been made of late.

There has been no change in the tenancy of the Charity’s property of 93 The lawns, Kettering.

c) Governance

Kettering Town Council appoints four persons to the Trust Board, and the Trust Board is able to appoint three further persons.

In 2022, the following appointments were made

By Kettering Town Council Lloyd Bunday Maggie Don Mark Rowley Scott Edwards*

By The Trustees Anne Ireson Larry Henson

*Jenny Henson, a long standing trustee and appointee of the Town Council sadly died in 2022 and she was replaced by Scott Edwards.

The Rector of SS Peter and Paul Church, Kettering David Walsh, is an ex officio member of the Trust Board

The Trust Board reviewed its financial and governance document in 2022 and updated it to reflect changes in local government structures since 2021.
