The chairperson 15 appointed bythe The Board members normally meet at least
four times per year. Membership of the Board is open to any Area Deanery constituted wlthin the
Oiocese of Swansea and &recon and to The Swansea and Brecon Diocesar¢ Conference, such bodies
being known as a "member organlsation" Each member organisation appoints an individual to
represent it and vote on its behatf at meetings of the Board. All members of the Board shall retire from
offlce at the end of a triennial period but may be rtylected or re-appointed for a further three year
period. The Board has powers to Co-opt up to 3 members in order io address any required expertise
or skills Eaps. The appointment of Trustees is under review in order to be more open and transparent,
particsjlarly with considerations around equality, diversity and inclu5i0n and ensuring the those with
the right skS115 ané expertise are recruited.

The trustees meet approximately four times annually. A Community worker and Manager, along with
a team of volunteers, have assisted with service delivery during this financial reporting period. Finance
and Staffing sub-committees continue to meet to increase trustee participation and engagement.

quality of sèrvicès within the Centre, liaising with relevant partners to ensure the demands and needs

Administrator- Belinda Butcher. Responsible for day-to-day administratlon of the ch3rity including

activities. In particular, the trustees consider how planned artivff£ies will contribute to thè aims and

Volunteers
We have a strong and capable bank of volunteers he3ded up by our Community Worker. whom we
greatly value and perceive as our main asset.
The trustees receive the support of thls help on an Informal and Irregular basis, although all volunteers
are required to be authorised and have the necessary DBS check clearance. The 8oard themselves are
committed volunteer5 who readi￿ give their ttme and efforts to the development of the chariws
activities.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
AcfiviTIES:
In its earlier Iteratlon, when the charity was known as the Council for Social Re5ponslbility, the Charity
provlded advocacy servlces and produced briefing papers on social issues for many years, without
trading or 8enerating income. However, slnce early 2015, after being approached by Brecon Foodbank
for a partnershSp, we began consulting with the local communlty and partners to Identlfy the servlces
that would best meet thelr needs and how we could develop wellbein8 servlces at St John's Centre.
St John's Is among the 3(YA most deprived a￿a$ according to the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivatlon
and Is further isolated due to its rural location. This vulnefable community ha5 faced disinvestment
and decline.
We have created and delivered a hub of interBenerational activities to bring the community tO8ether.

relationships. strengthen resilience. and enhance enjoyment of life
thereby improving
mental and physical wellbeing.
We regularly gather ideas and feedback from the community to ensure their voices are heard and to
provide valuable services without duplication
Luncheon Club
An over 505 luncheon club plays a crucial role in fosteringa sense of community among its participants.
These gatherings provide a regular, welcoming Spa￿ where individua15 can come tO8ether, share

meals, and engage in meaningful conversations. Thi5 sense of bekjnging is particularly important for
older adults. who may face various lifè changes stjch as retirement. loss of loved one5, or health issues
that tan lead to feelings of isolation. By participating in a luncheon club, members can bulld new
friendships, rekindle old ones, and feel connected to a supportive network. Thi5 communal
environment llot only enhances their social lives but also contributès to their overall well-belng and
happiness.
Moreover, these clubs are Instrumental in reducing social isolation and lonellness. whlch are
significant concerns for the over 50s demographic. Regular social inter3CtbDns at the luncheon club
can help allevlate feelings of loneliness by providing a consistent opportunity for engagement and
companionship. The artivities and events organised by the club oftÈn encourage members to stav
active and involved, which can have positive effects on both mental and physital health. By offering a
platform for soeiali2atlon, these Clubs help partlcipants maintain a sense of purpose and fulfilment,
uliimately improvin8 their quality of life.
MÈSSY Monda￿$ Afterxh¢Jol and hollday dub:
Messy Mondays Afterschool Club offers a unique and valuable opportunity for prlrnary-aged chlldren
and their parents to come together in a warm and inviting environment. This club is designed to foster
famlly bonding through shared activities such as arts arbd crafts, cookln& and g3rdenSng. By
partlclpatlng In these hands-on activities, childrèn and their parents can creaie lasting memories while
learning new skills. The collaborative nature of the club encourages teamwork and communication,
strengthening family relationships and providing a sUPPQrtive space for both children and adults to
express their creativity arKI curiosty.
The value of Messy Mondays extends beyond just family bonding,. it also plays a signifitant role in the
social and emotional development of children. EnEaEing in arts and crafts helps children develop fine
motor skills and boosts their confidence as they see their projects come io life. Cooking together
tèaches valuable life skills and promote5 heatthy eating habits, while gardening instils a sense of
responsibility and a connection to nature. Additionally, the club provides a safe and nurturing
environment where children can interact with their peers. fostering friendships and enhancing their

For parents, itoffers a chance to connertwith otherfamilies.share experiences, and build a supportive
ommunity. Overall, Messy Mondays Afterschool Club is a great initiative that enrichès the lives of
both children and their parents through shared learning and play.
In June, we had a great day at our Messy Mondarfs field trip to Folly Farm and Tenby beach. We made
friends with the giraffe and penguin5. therh we finished the day with f15h and chips and Splashing in
the sea.
Foodb¥nk
8recon Food Bank is a community-driven initiative, supported by over 40 dedicated volunteers who
bring a diverse range of skills and experiences. Some of these volunteers are stlll worklng, while others
are retired. but all share a commitment to fairness and a strong desire to assist those facing food
poverty.
As one of our key partner aeencies, the Food Bank collaborates closely with us to distribute Food Co-
op voucher5 to their client5, providing them with free bags of fruit, vegetsbles, or salad. Depending
on the season, they also issue Bardenin8 club w)urhers. Additionally. we offer leftover produce to
Food Bank clients, alon8 Wlth items from our honesty table and supermarket donations. Th9 Food
Bank has been Snstrumental in helping us establish our community fridge initiative, ensuring we had
the proper 5etUf* and assisting us in sourcing supplies that were safe to eat but would otherwise be
discarded by local supemiarkets and businesses.
Food Cfyop
Driven by a Commun￿t￿5 desire for better food, this small-scale project has achieved remarkable
results. Our food co-op 15 now well-eslablished. sourcing food locally and in an environmental
friendly manner. We provide fresh, healthy produceto member5 at affordable prices. enhancing their
health and well-bein8. This allowsthem to enjoy a nutritious diet that might otherwise be out of rÈach
on limited budget5. Additionally, we offei vouchers to fooil bank users and accept Healthy Start
vouchers at the co-op.

The Produ￿ from our food CO-OP is also used in cooking and lunch clubs. and we offer hOm￿[0wn
organic crops from our 8ardening club. Somè older community members can feel isolated due to
changes in the communiiyi such as the ck)sure of corner shop5 and the rise of out-of-town shoppin8
area5. These changes can make it harder for them to access necessary seNices and facilities. like
buying locally produce¢J fresh produce from a nearbyvenue. OUrc(￿p helps bridge thisgap. providing
3 convenient and supportlve resource for the community-
Warm Spac•
We were fortunate to gain fvndln8 from National Grid for a Warni Space. Warm spaces are vital in
providing a safe and welcoming envrronment. especially during the Colder months. These spaces offer
not only warmth but also refreshmentssuch as hot drinks. which can be a significant comfortforthose
Struggling with heating costs.
Additionallyi warm space5 often seTve a5 hubs foracces5ing variou5 5UPPOrt services, inclLÈdin8 advlce
on manaBin8 enerBY bills. food banks. and mental health resource5. By offering a place Whe￿ people
can connect with others and receive practical assistance, warm spaces help to reduce 50cial i501atio

Gardening Club
We worked in partnership with Minjs Wales who are a150 based at the centre to further develop the
gardening club in the spring and in no time the beds were full of flowers in bloom.
lfj partnership with Brecon Foodbank we were Successful in receiving a donation of supplies from the
Old Railway Line Garden Centre to help with re-starting the gardening club at the Centre. They kindlv
donated V3TIOLlS Items including compost. st3rtef plants and Seeds and a bird house.

In April 2023 and in partnership with Faith in Families, we stsrted receiving e55erttials from Cwtch
Mawr, Wales, First Multibank. This has enabled us to offer to our service users a number of household
and personal hygiene item5 such as.. toilet rolls, wet wipes, shower gels, kitthen towel. toothbrushes,
toothpaste. cleaning produrt5 and deodorants.

We have been successful with the help of our food co-op in supptying the ingredients for SOLFPS along
with recipe cards in the community fridge and this was extremely popular.

We ran two community apple pressing events duringthe year. The resulting apple juice was delicious.
These initiatives were assisted by some local artists who startrd a collaboratlve prolect, Invltlng
communlty members to take part tn the artwork.

Our luncheon club participants had the opportunity lo share their view5 about what matters to them

Chrlstma5 Day Dlnner
For those alone on Christma5 day. a free three course meal wa5 provided, the chance to
meet new people and spend the day somewhere cosy and friendly. We could not have
provided such a heart-warmin8 and much needed Service without some of our fantastic
volunteers and would like to thank everyone who came to Christmas Day Lunch and helped
make it a special day. Big thank you to Jamie for all his hard work organising it and local
businesses that supported us with free or lower cost supplies.

FUTURE PLINS
We would like to develop Messy Mondarfs further around providing support for children with
Addttion31 Learning Needs and those struggling with big emotions. We are explorinE waysto fund play
therapists to help us with this.

The accounts have been reviewed by an independent examiner (Easybooks Wales Ltdl and they were
satisfied that they are a true and falr view of the activities ft)r the period ended 31" March 2024.
The Wellbeing Project Brecon generated a Defitit of £ 24,268 during the reportln8 period

The Wellbein8 Prolect Brecon wlshes to plan ahead to ensure it can meet its obligations and as the
organisation grows would like to implement a reserves poli¢y In order to meet the c05t of any future
staff redundancy cos15 and approximaiely two to three months of opeTating costs. A reserves pollcv
could also allow for the contingen¢y of late payments of grant income and other contingEncles that
may arlse on the non-continuance of grant fundlng.

The Trustees consider that theye are no material uncertainties al)out the charity's ability to continye
as a going concern. It Is therefore considered appropriate by the Trustees to prepare the financlal
statements on a going concern basls.

All Incomlng resources are Included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has
passed to the charity,. It is probable that the economlc benefits associated wlth the transactlon wlll
flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured.
There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unle55 requlred or
permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102.
The charlty ha5 incurred expenditure on support c￿ts in the period.
The charlty has not received any goods for use by the charity itself.
The value ol any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is d￿ribed in the
tru5tees' annual report.
Expendlture and Llabllltie5
Llabllities are reco8nised where It Is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obllgation
committing the charlty io pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with
reasonable certainty-
Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under he3dings that
aggre8ate all ¢ost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular
headings, they have been allocated to artivitie5 on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other 5UPPOrt. Governance costs
cornprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity ènd its compliance with regulation an¢J
good practice.
