Trustee Review of 2020

It has been a challenging year for our Chapel, dominated by Covid-19 and the global pandemic.

The year started as normal but by February it was already clear that life was about to change; by the end of March it was clear how much was about to change. We closed the Chapel doors at the start of April and did not reopen them until the start of August, some four months later. We then closed the doors again in early November until the end of the year.

We are grateful for the continuing support of the Manchester District Association of Unitarian Chapels (MDA). During 2020 we continued to receive valuable support and generous grant funding – special thanks to Natasha for her support.

Whilst the Chapel was open, our regular activities included: Sunday worship - led by a visiting Minister and Reflections services led by a member of our Community. Special thanks to Helen and Val for their efforts. Tao meditation on Tuesdays – organised by Neil and led each week by a member of our Community. Circle Dancing – special thanks to Brigid. Sacred drumming - special thanks to Karen.

Sadly, due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have discontinued our Treacle Café and car park. Our grateful thanks to Judith, Helen and others for their efforts over the years.

We have been pleased to host meetings led by our friends at AA and the Quakers.

In July we carried out a Covid-19 risk assessment, put up safety notices, set up sanitising stations and a one way system

We held Community Meetings in January, August and November at which community decisions were minuted. We held our AGM on 23[rd] August.

At the start of October we welcomed Laura Dobson, Student Minister for a six month placement from the Unitarian College. Laura organised Sunday worship via Zoom together with the Tao on Tuesday.

The lower wall in our Chapel car park wall has now been repaired, our grateful thanks to the MDA for this.

Special thanks to Pat for cleaning and making the Chapel look at its best.

Our financial performance over the year has been satisfactory, our Receipts and Payments report shows a surplus for the year but that is largely due to generous grant support from the MDA (to compensate for our shortfall in income due to Covid-19). Our Securities increased in value over the year and our Assets and Liabilities report shows that total capital has increased by a healthy margin. We are not aware of any Liabilities. We have continued to make charitable donations to other causes. Our special thanks to Helen as Treasurer. Our new online bank account has finally been opened.
