John Burrill Almshouses continues to provide housingfor the elderly In need in line with the will
of John Burrill dated T July 1924 where he left monies to erect almshouses to provide housing
for the.old resident8 of the City of York who are over 60 years old..
The Trust metthree times duringth8 year and Mulberry PM provlded the day-to-day clerkin&
finance and m8nagement services.
Rupert Dewhirst joined the Trustees in August 2023. to take the number ofTrustees {atthat
time} to four.
The main activlty undertaken bythe ¢haritytofurther its charitable purposesforthe public
benefit is the provision of 7 residenc8s across its ALmshoL¢se facilities. This provision is
available forthe'old residents of the City of Yorkwho are Dver 60 years old" who are'aged or
inform persons who would otherwise be dependent on parochial relief"
The charity has complied withthe duty in section 4of the 2006Actto have due regard to
guidance on public benefit published bythe Commlssion.

The almshouses had full occupancy with residents all year round.
Number S John Burrill was fully renovated . including new boiler and electrics. Whllst renovation
works occurred the propertywas also structurally inspected. The woodland area was fenced off
for Health and Safety purposes. Typical maintenance was C8rried out as well as some light roof
repairs.
The attached financial ststements have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis.They
have been subjected to independent review.
John Burrill Almshouses did not have a reserves policyfor the year to whiGh the flnancial
statements relate.
Attempts were made to establish a higher interest savings account. but due to Lack of up-to-
date signatories ori the principal bank account this was delayed. Subsequently deposited funds
were re-arranged to maximise the interest paid on the existing accounts.

I reporttothetrustees on my examination ofthe 8ccountsof th8 charityfortheyear ended 30
June 2024which are set out on pages 5-6.
As the charity trustees of John Burrill Almshouses, YOLJ are responsible for the prep8Yation of the
accounts In accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act").
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carrled out under section 145 of
the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination. I have followed the applicable Directions given
bythe Charitycommission undersection 14515J{b} ofthe Act.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my
attention in connection with ihe examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any
material respect:
accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or
the accounts do not accord with the8ccountlng records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination
to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understsnding of the accounts
to be reached.
