Structure, governance and rnanagernent
The financial statements comply wf(h the statutory requirements, the governing document and the
SORP (revised 2015 IFRS102)} of accounting and reporting by charities.
The goveming document regarding the charrty's constttution is 8 declaration of Charitable Trust dated
14th October 1957.
No fomial method has been adopted by the challty for the appointment and training of trustees.
Trustees are appointed inlemally based upon their experience and knowledge.
Strategic decisions are taken by the trustees with the main day-t(Hlay management decisions taken
by the sisters.
The Provincial House is in Paris and the Sisters, convent in London is one of the many houses
throughout the world. The Sisters have established a hostel for girls providing lodging and spiritual
care.
Ri$k Management
The Charity is dependent on i(s functional property and any unforeseen damage lo this propety, such
as fires, represents the largest risk lo the charity's ability to continue operations. The Trustees ensure
that the property is adequately insured in the event of any such catastrophe and the levels of
insurance are reviewed on a regular basis. which incorporates health and safety reviews.
The trustees also have in place policies and procedures to cope with any beneficiaries requiring
shelter and spiritual Care.
Objectives and activities
The principal activity of the Charrty as defined in the goveming document is the advancement of the
Roman Catholic religion in England & Wales.
The trustees ar$ free to invest the funds of the charity as they feel is appropriate.
Public benefit
The Tru51ees confirm that they have corllplied with their duly as prescribed the Charf(ies Act 2011 to
have due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.
Achievements and perfomance
Southwell Gardens had all rooms in the building available. This totals 43 rooms providing 67 beds.

Flnanelal review
During the year, there was a deficit in funds lolalling £803,22412022'. £6,521.108 deficit). The charty
made donations to Provincial House of £Nil 12022.. £19,000) during the year. The Charity made the
donation of £783,909 to the Congregation of the religious of Mary Immaculate of Milan. Italy
(2022".£Nill during the year.
The total bank balance was £863,53512022'. £1,659,123) al the year end.
Reserves
The Trusfs reserves at the year end totslled £2,014,564 {2022'. £1,619,492), which is arrived al after
removing the value of the functional property and its fittings. There are no restricted or designated
funds. The Trustees continued to rnaintain reserves during the period appropriate to meet the future
eharitable objectives of the charty, with the aim of maintsinin9 the fund to enable the charity to
continue lo provide spiritu?[ care and hostel services.
In the prior year as a result of the impact of Covid and other outside influences on the charity, the
Trustees deemed it appropriate to reconsider the policy of holding reserves. The previous policy to
maintain reserves sufficient lo meet 3 - 6 months expenditure was insufficienlly conservative, and as a
result the period was exlended. The new policy was approved and came into effect in June 2021. 8nd
1$ to hold sufficient reserves to meet 2 years expenses without budgeting any additional in￿me.
The charity is dependent on rts functional property in South Kensington and any unforeseen damage
to this property, such as a fire, ￿preSentS the largest risk to the charity's abilty to continue operations.
The Trustees ensure that the property Is adequalety insured in the event of any such catsstrophe and
the levels of insurance are reviewed on a regular basis.
Plans for future pedods
The main strategy for the foreseeable future is the further advancemerbt of the Roman Catholic religion
and in direct connedion to provide shelter and spirftual care for visitors.

The trustees are responsible for prepanng the trustees. report and the financial ststements in
accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom A￿o￿ntIng Standards (United Kingd¢)m
Generally A￿epted Accounting Practice).

statements for each year which give a true and fair view of the slate of affairs of the charity and of the

31 December 2023.

As the trustees of the charty you a￿ responsible for the preparatiorb of the financial statements in
accordance wf(h the requirements of the Charf(ies Act 2011 I'the Act,).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial slalements out under sedion 145
of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given
by the Charity Commission under section 1451511bl of the Ad.
Independent examinefs statement
Since the charty's gros5 income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a body
listed in section 145 of the 2011 Act. I confimi that l am qualified to undertake the examination
be¢ause l am a member of the Instf(ute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW),
which is one of the listed bcxjies.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect=
accounting records were not kept in respect of the charty as required by section 130 of the
Act., or
the financial statements do not accord with those records., or
the financial statements do not compty with the applicable requirements conceming the
form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations
2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'lrue and fail view which is not a
matter considered as part of an independent examination.

These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102. 'The Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland,, the Statement of
Recommended Practicè appliGable to char((ies preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 {Charities
SORP IFRS 10211 and the Charities Act 2011.

The financial statements have been prepared on the historical cost basis, as modified by the
revaluation of certain financial assets and liabilities and investment properties measured al fair
valLte through income or expendf(ure.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which 1$ the functtonal currency of the entity.
Going concern
They have considered the polenb.al business impact of the events in Ukraine with particular
referen￿ to how these may disrupt their business model, strategy and operations. The trustees
are satisfied that these reviews showed no material risks to the business and conclude that the
finan¢ial statements should continue to be p￿pared on a going concern basis.
Overall, the trustees are satisfied that the ￿VIeW showed no material risks to the business and
conclude the financial statements should continue lo be prepared on a going concern basis.
Judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty
The preparation of the financial slalemenls requires management to make judgements.
