## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT**

## **YEAR ENDED 5 APRIL 2025**

## **OBJECTIVES**

The Chelmsford Medical Education and Research Trust was established by a deed dated 16 September 1964. The Charity’s objects as stated in its governing document are to encourage, assist and extend academic and research activities of medical, dental and allied professions in the area of the Mid Essex Hospital NHS trust.

The trustees have had due regard to guidance published by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

**ANNUAL REPORT BY CHAIRMAN OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2024 – 2025**

## **Membership**

Meetings of the executive committee were held during the year attended by Dr Gerald Clesham, Dr John Guy, Mrs Carol Climie and Dr Hywel Jones. In addition, Dr Sarah Crane (Associate Medical Director for development, Clinical Leadership and Innovation Directorate, MSE ICB) has attended meetings.

## **Finances**

The financial position remains healthy. Movement of funds between the bank and investment accounts was discussed and agreed by the executive committee.

## **CMERT activities**

A number of Mid Essex Medical Forum evening meetings were held during the year. They were attended by hospital staff and general practitioners with the aim of encouraging a dialogue between primary and secondary care.

A CMERT website is currently under construction.

The response to the annual CMERT audit awards this year was disappointing.

## **Future activities**

CMERT will support further educational activities next year. These will include evening Mid Essex Medical Forum meetings and a CMERT sponsored Grand Round at Broomfield Hospital.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES**

## **YEAR ENDED 5 APRIL 2025**

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2025 which are set out on pages 6 to 8.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

- accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

- the accounts do not accord with those records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
