The Trustees present Ihelr report antl the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 5 April 20*2.
The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommgnded Practice (SORP} "Accounting and
Reportlng by Charftles. {FRS 102} In preparing the annual report and financlal statsmenls of the charity.
The fjnandal stalemenls have beèn prepared In OGCOTdanca with the accountlng policies set out In nolgs to the
accounts and comply wllh the oharity's governlng document, th8 Charities Act 2011 and Accounllng and
Rgport¢ng by Charltles: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charfues prgparing their accounts in
accordance wlth th8 FlnatLCtal Repvrllng Stan(Joid appliGable itb the UK and RepubliG of Ireland publS8h¢d in
Odober 2019.
Structurot governance and manogement
The Chartty (number 236654) was estsblished on 14 October 1963 and is administered by the trustees. The
governing deed of that date glves the trustees full discrellon to apply both income and capital in or towards the
furtherance of such charitable purposes as they shall from Ume lo time think fiL
On 30 November 1998. the assets of the Wayfarers Trust were transferred into the Harold and Alice Bridges
Charity and are included in the de8lgnated Investment fvnd and the In￿rne generatsd Is used for the charitsble
objects ofthe main charity.
During the year gnded 5 Aprll 2012 the assets and accrued Inoome of the estate of the lalg Richard Hi)w8rth,
totalling £451.369, were transferred to the Harold and Allc8 Brldges Charity following the d8alh of th& 1881 I￿e
tenant on 12Ui June 2010. The capital of £432.507 was Included In Ihe designated Investsngnt fund and the
Income generated Is used for the tharitable objectivès of the main charfty.
There have been no changes to policy since th8 last report. On the death of the settlor the provlsions of the
Trustee Act 1925 Section 36 apply in that the surviving trustees can appolnt trustees or should they become
capable their personal rewesenlatives can appolnt new trustee8 in wrlilng.
Tntsteos of the charity
The Iwsle¢s who ha￿ served durlng the year are Sel out on page 1. The trustees meet three Umfts a year to
discuss and approve grant applications 8nd review finances. Cheques are sent oul to those successfijl
applicants within days of each meeting.
Thg existing trustees are responsible for the appointrnent of new trustees.
Tha trustees h8ve assessed the major risks whlch may ark8e In the Gonduct of the Charity and wlll monllor these
annually.
Oblectlves and activities
The pollcy of the trustees for several ye8r8 has been lo malnlaln th6 capllal furKI treatlng tKsth reallsed and
unreallsed gains as additions to this lund and to dlstrfbute the annual income adsing.
The trustses normally m8k8 grants to local causes In the Lancashlre and South Cumbria area with special
prefeTen¢e to the River Ribble aroa and northwards. the Blackbum area, and the South Lakes area. Generally,
grants are made lo benefit the young and the elderly, are m8lnly towards capital projtscts In oonnection wth rural
and vlllage life especially where theTe is associated voluntary effort.

pro￿￿eS sufficient funds to cover grants payable and adminislralion costs and to respond to emergency
applScations for grants which arise from time to ￿Me. Unrestricted funds were malnlained at simi10r levels
throughout the year.
Investment pollcy and perfomian
The Iru8tees have notlfted Investec Wealth & Investment Limlled. Ihelr Invgstment custodlans, that they require a
balanced retum Ir¢m Income and capital growth accgpllng a moderate level of rlsk. The trustees review the
Inve81ment portfollo and dl8cuss any proposals made by thg stockbrokers at thelr meetings.
Realls8d and unreallsed 98lns on Investments lotalled £303,337. to leave th8 deslgnated fund represented by
cash at bank and Investments al market value lotalllng £4.267,087 on 5 Aprll 2022. The investments held have 811

The Harold and Alice Brfdges Charity is a registered charty In the Unlted Kingdom. The address of the
registere(l offico is given in the charity information on page 1 of these financlal statements. The nature
of the charlty's op8ralions and prfnclpal activities are included wllhln thè Trustee8 Rep￿.
The charfty oonstitutes a publlc benefrt entity as defined by FRS 102. The financlal statemerts have
been prepared in accordance wlth Accounting and Reporting by Charlues: Ststement of Recommended
Practice applicablg to chadties preparfng theSr accounts In accordance wlth the Flnanclal Reportlng
standard applicablg In .the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 102) (October 2019), the Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the United Klngdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102). the Char¢tles
Act 2011 and UK Generally Accepted Accountlng Pra¢llce.

Ch8rftles {Accounts and Reports) Regulations 20L)8 onty to the extent required to provide a 'true and falr

Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts In accordance with the
Financlal Reportlng Standard applicable in th$ UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102) issued on 16 Juty
2014 rather than the A￿OUntIng and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of R&commended Practice
gffectwe from 1 April 2005 which has slnce been withdrawn.
Thg financial 8tatements are prepared on a going concem basls under th8 hlstodcal Cost conventlon,
modified to include certain items ot falr value. The financial ststements are prepared In stgrllng whlch Is
the funGlional currency of the charlty.
The signifioant accountlng policies applled Sn the prepayatlon of these financlal stslements are set out
below. These policies have been ¢onsistenUy applied to all years presented unless otherwse stated.
Funds
Unrestricted funds are avallable for use at the dlscretion of the trustees In furtherance of the general
objecllves of the charity and whlch have not been designated for other Purposes.
Dgsignated funds comprlse unreslricled funds that have been sel aside by the trustees for partiojlar
purposes. The aim and usg of each de8lgnaled fvrKI is set out In the notes to the finandd statements.
Income recognltlon
All Incoming resources are included In thg Statement of Flnancial Activitles ISOFAI when the charlly18
legalSy enlllled lo the Income after any performance condltlons have been met, the amount can be
measured reliably and It Is probabb that the income ￿11 be r8ceived.
Inveslment Income Is eamed through holding assets for investment purposes.11 inclLtde8 dlvldands, and
Interest. Where It Is not pracllcable to identlfy investment management Costs incurred w5th1n a scheme
with reasonable accuracy the inveslment income Is reported net of these costs. It Is included when the
amount Can be measured reliably. Interest income is recognised using the effective interest mgthod and
dbvidend Income is recognised as the charills right lo receive payment Is established.

Expenditur• recognltlon
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been class6fied under headings that
aggregate all costs related to the Category. Expenditure is recognlsed where there Is a legal OT
constructive obligation to make payments to thlrd parties. It Is probable that the settlement will be
required and the amount of the obllgalion can be measured rellably. 11 Is Gategorlsed under the following
headlngs:
Expenditure on raising funds Includes inve5fmeTrt management costs; and
Expenditure on Charflable adivities includes grants awarded and support costs Incurred.
Irrecoverabl? VAT is charged as an expensè agalnst the actfvlty for whlch expendlbJr8 arose.
Grants payable to third partles are ￿thIn the charitable oblectlves. Where unconditional grants arg
offered. Ihls Is accrued as soon as the reclpignt is notified of the grant, as this gives rise to a reasonable
8xpeOta￿on that the reclpient will re¢eSve the grants. Where grants are wndilional relatfng to
performance then the grant is only accruèd when any unfuifilled condltlons are outside of the control of
the charity.
Full provision is made for any traded call options open at the year end.
Support ¢osts allocatlon
Support cests are those that assist the w￿k of the tharity but do not dlrectly represent charitablg actiwlies
and include govemance costs and adminislralivg costs. They are incurred dweclly Sn support of
expenditure on the objects of the charty. Where support costs cannot be dSrecUy attributed lo pa￿Cular
headings they have been all¢xated lo cost of raising funds and expenditurg on charitable activf(i¢s on
ba81s consistent with use of the resources.
