TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT SAMUEL AND ELIZABETH WILD ALMSHOUSE TRUST
This report is written by Sally Whitham, on behalf of the trustees of the above Trust Trustees:-
Sally Whitham (of Calver), Kerry Gibbings (of Froggatt) and David Nicholson (of Curbar).
The Trust owns a one bedroomed apartment in the village of Calver which provides accommodation for a person in need within the area of the villages of Calver, Curbar and Froggatt. The resident pays a monthly maintenance charge, and any surplus left at years end should be distributed to where there is a need within the three villages. This has been the aim of the Almshouse from its start in 1931.
In 2023, the accommodation was in drastic need of renovation which the Trustees managed through the help of a council grant (£85,900). Renovations started in the autumn of 2023 and finished Spring 2024. Total cost of renovations was £86,200. The resident returned to the property in the Spring of 2024 and is now enjoying comfortable and up-to-date accommodation.
Any surplus money from previous years had been held in case it was needed for the renovations. The trustees decided in 2024 that an amount still needs to be held for future maintenance (£15,000), but as there was a surplus, donations were given to help people and community groups in the area. £3,576 was donated in 2024. The trustees will donate every year when there is surplus to requirements, supporting the needy and vulnerable people in the villages of Calver, Curbar and Froggatt.
The trustees feel that their goals were achieved in 2024, and that the future of the Trust will be more effective, serving the purpose it was set up for.
Sally Whitham (secretary and trustee).
