Mrs Beatrice Mary Jarman (until 7 May 2020) Mr Philip Gilbert Channon Mrs Gloria Lulalee Day Mr John Desmond Glenney Miss Sonja Elaine Reid Mrs Auleen Peta Timms Mrs Etta Wagstaffe The EFCC Trust Corporation Limited
Beatrice Mary Jarman, a trustee and the church secretary, passed away on 7 May 2020.
The church’s minister was the Reverend William Edward Calder. During the year he gave notice that he would retire at Easter 2021.
The church is thankful to God for the long service that each of them have given.
Miss Sonja Elaine Reid and The EFCC Trust Corporation Limited were the only active trustees during the year. The latter is the custodian trustee for the charity’s properties.
Structure, governance and management
The charity is constituted as a charitable trust. Its governing document is the trust deed.
Objectives and activities
The objects of the charity set out in its governing document are to proclaim the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to build his church in our community.
We are a church affiliated to the Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches, working in the community of Thornton Heath with activities such as youth work and pastoral care.
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Achievements and performance
During the year, the church has been meeting the spiritual needs of the people of Thornton Heath through declaring the gospel, as well as providing practical help and support.
1
During the lockdown stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, the church began meeting online using Zoom. The church resumed meeting in person as soon as this was permitted, but has carried on using Zoom as well, so that members who are at home or in hospital can participate in the services.
Financial review
The church recorded net receipts of nearly £11,000 in the year ended March 2021, bringing reserves to over £109,000.
This includes a restricted fund of £575 for the Junior Church.
The charity aims to hold financial reserves sufficient to cover foreseeable repairs that may be required on its premises. The trustees consider that the current level of reserves is adequate for this purpose. The church is continuing to send regular financial support to another congregation.
Declaration
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
