The Great War Memorial Hall

(Known as Mawnan Memorial Hall)

Report of the Trustees For the year ended 31 March 2024

The Trustees present their report and the receipts and payments account together with a statement of assets of the Charity for the year ended 31st March 2024. The statements have been prepared in accordance with the charity’s trust deed and applicable law.

The Great War Memorial Hall of Mawnan Smith, Cornwall is an unincorporated charity registered with the Charity Commissioners (Number 235032) and constituted by Deed of Trust, dated 28th August, 1920. Its objectives are to use the Memorial Hall for the recreation or otherwise of the residents of Mawnan Smith or for social, charitable or other public services.

During the year the Charity’s committee continued to manage the hall in accordance with the Deed of Trust. Following on from the covid epidemic the management of the hall has returned to the level activities previously enjoyed. At all times the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. It is hoped that the programme for 2024/25 will continue to fully utilise the hall.

The Charity is administered by a management committee who are appointed or reappointed annually at the Annual General Meeting. Those who served during the year comprised:-

Rodney Allday Anthony Barbary Christina Corbett Susan Glover Sylvia King Brenda Kirk Philip Moyle Nial Murphy Ian Newman Susan Pitman Nicholas Rawley Caroline Toland Valerie Tunwell (Chair)

The Charity’s bankers are Barclays of Killigrew Street, Falmouth, Cornwall and its solicitors are Hine Downing of Berkeley Vale, Falmouth.

The committee continue to monitor income and expenses carefully and it is considered that the charity should maintain a reserve equal to at least one full year’s running expenses. In addition reserves are being accumulated to cover the possible cost of future major maintenance. This will be kept under review.

The Trustees are mindful of the need to keep under review potential risks and have arranged suitable insurance cover.

Signed on behalf of the Trustees
