The Ifuslees present their annual report and finanelal slalgmenls of the charily for the yèar ended 31
December 2024. The financial statefflenls have been prepared in accordane6 with the accounting policies
sel out in note 1 to the accounls and comply with the charity'5 trust deed, the Charities Act 2011 and
Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable lo charilies
preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
RepLJbli¢ of Ireland published on 16 July 2014.
Oblectlves and actlvltlès for the public benefit
The ch8rily was 8el up was lo provide a place ol meeting and worship for a religious communily within the
Unitarian and Free Christian movement.
Achlevement8 and performance
Appolntment of a mSnlster and eurrent position
There is no Mlni518r in post for the Bristol Group, therelore no current financial commitment from the
A¢Gounl of Unitarian Meeting (Bristol) to the Bristol Group,. since Ihe end ol the sludonl placernenl, this
remains vacant. There is. howev8r, a new pioposal opening by the Nation81 Office (The General Assembly,
Essex Hall, London) lor a grant that we shall be able to sel advertising for, and an advert has gon8 to the
va¢8ncy page.
Property Management- adrninistration
Thls remains with Charlotte Lang, in liaison with the chair of the Tru$lee5. We have had an Sncr8ase in hire
bookings this year.
Currant state of the bulldlng
As the building is listed and the hall buSlt on, il is li518d by association. We have archileclural supervision
when needed by Phillip Hughes Associates Ltd, who direct the Unilaiian Meeting (Brisloll on bullding
matters. Therè are no current reports or observation that require expenditure. General maintenance and a
Compliarice regime are in place, and this is attended on a cyclical basis.
Flnanclal rèvi¢w
Th8 rnanaging Iruslees of the Unliarlan Meeting as named in the scherne of the Charfty Comm18sion dated
24th July 1997 are the responsible body for overseeing and controlling Ihe uses of oongregalional funds as
reported here in the disbursemenls. The ￿ngregatsOnal funds are used for wofks on the building {Surrey
Lodge in Brunswick Square), the employment of a minister, other financial outgoings and Investment policy.
At present the Congregational Committee whose members are elected make decisions and report lo the
trustees. The managlng Trust885 mu81 meet twice a year for receipt of eommillee reports and to confirm all
large financial decisions, The management ol the investment portfolio is now administered by Evelyn
Partners Ifoimerly Smith and Williamson}. The lalesl valualion, on 31st Decemb$r 2024. 5how8 a value of
£291,410.
Structure, Govemance and management
Tho Iiusl is a regislered charity number 234482, and is conslltutèd under a Irusl deed dated 31.12.1822.
New trustees are appointed by the e￿sting trustees and serye for three years 8fter which they may put
themselves forward for rè-8ppoinlmonl.
The Iru51ees consider the board of trustees and th8 Presldenl as cornprising the key management
personnel of the charity in charg6 of directing and controlling the charity and running 8nd operating the
charity on a day to day basi5. Al truste85 give their lime freely and no Iruslge rem(tneralion was paid durlng
the year.

My examination was carrled out in accoidance with Ihe General Directions given by the Charity
Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by Ihg charity and a

lefms or disdosures In the accounts and seeking explanations from you a5 Iruslees conceming any such
matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and

ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of Accoun
The financial slalemenls have been prepared in a￿ordanCe with Statement of Recommended
Pra¢lice.' Accounting and Reporting by Ch8ritie8 preparing their aecounts in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 is8ued on
16 July 2014 and the Financial Reporting Standard 8pplicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland
IFRS 1021 and the Charities Act 2011.
Unitarian Meeting Bristol mee13 the definition ol a public benefit entity under FRS102. Assets
and liabilities are initially recognised al historical cost Of tr8ns8clion value unless otherwise
stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.
Investments
Investments are a form of bagic financial inslrument and are initially reeogni5ed al their
tiansaclioTI value and subsequently measured 81 Ih8ir fair value as at the balance sheet date
using the closing quoted market PllC6. The slalement of activitles includes the net galns 8r5d
losses 8ri5ing on revaluation and disposals throughout the y8ar.
All gains and losses are taken lo the Statement of Financial Activities as they arise. Realised
gains and losses on investments are calculated as the diffeience between sales proceeds and
thelr op6ning carrying value or their purchase value. Unrealised gains and losses are calculated
as the difference between the fair value at the year end and their carrylng value.
Income R•eo Itlon
All incoming resources are in¢luded in the statement of Iinancial activities when Ihe charity is
enlilled lo the income 8nd the amount can be quantified with reason8ble accuracy. The
following specific policies are applied Io p8rticular categories of Income..
Voluntary income is received by way of grants, donations and gifts and is Includèd in full in the
statement ol Financial Activities when receivable. Grants, where entitl&rn8nl is not conditional
on the delivery of a specific performance by the charity. are recognised when the chalily
becomes unconditionally entitled to the grant.
Investment income Is Included when receivable.
Incoming resourc05 from charitable tradlng activity are accounted (or when eained.
Incoming resources from grants, where related to perf01rn8nce and specific dellvorables, are
accounted lor as the charity earns the right to consideration by il5 perfom)anc8.

Over the years, individu81s have set up charitable Irustsllunds for the bènefit of the Unitarian
¢omrnunily in Bristol. As lime has passed, these individual chhritable Iruslslfunds have been brought under
the umbrella of the UMB and the inveslrvenl assets transferr@d into Ihe UMB'S name.
These investments gen&ral$ dividend income whlch is Irealed as bequest income in the accounts.
Following on Irom guidance received fioTn the Charity Commission, il was advised that these
various fundslliusls a￿ all relevant lo the day to day runnlng of the charity and there was no need lo
cl888ify them as separatè reslricled funds. Title has passed to the UMB and are therefore for unreslricled
activities.
