## Structure, Governance and Management 

The Furness and Barrow Branch is autonomous and operates within the Branch Rules and with connections to the National body of the RSPCA. 

The recruitment and appointment of trustees is performed by inviting members of the local branch to be on the committee. Nominations to stand for election are sent to all members before the AGM and eligible members of the AGM vote to elect the trustees of the Branch. Policies and procedures for the training of Trustees are drawn through written guidance from the National Body. The Branch has monthly committee meetings which are minuted. 

We are insured through a policy that comes through RSPCA headquarters and preform risk assessments when the situation merits. 

Selected members of our Branch attend Group meetings with other Branches in the Northwest region and are in regular dialogues with the other Cumbrian Branches. Regional Board meetings are also attended by our Regional Board representatives when required and issues addressed at these meetings which are considered of relevance to the Branch are addressed at subsequent Branch committee meetings. We have a Facebook page and a branch web page which are popular and are kept up to date by a group of dedicated volunteers. We also have a working connection with local media for advertising animals for adoption and advising on matters of animal welfare for featured articles. 

The Charity exists to promote animal welfare and to prevent cruelty to animals in the Branch area and provides a re homing service for case and inspectorate sign-over cats and dogs., though our work with the latter is limited to fostering due to lack of local kennel facilities. These objectives are largely performed through our advice centre via telephone, meetings and leaflet distribution and via our website and social media options. We also promote neutering and provide welfare assistance towards veterinary care through the issuing of vouchers,. and we liaise with local vets regarding animal welfare. All animals which we rehome are neutered, microchipped and inoculated. Volunteers 



for the Branch attend home visitingcourses to assist us with this aspect of our work. 




The RSPCA Advice centre, 106 Church Street, Barrow-in-Furness gives advice and offers help to the general public. The office is open Monday and Wednesday from 9am -4pm and Thursdays 9am - lpm.

During 2020 we were unable to hold fundraising events due to covid restridions 




## **R  ehomlng and Welfarework of the Branch** 

During 2020 even with covid restrictions we were able to Neuter 98 cats, 45 dogs, 22 rabbits And 6 guinea pigs 

We have chipped 55 cats and 1 

rabbit We also vaccinated 63 cats, 

and 1 rabbit

As a local branch we have passed through another difficult year of changes and accomplishments,especially in this turbulent time with the ever presence of COVID-19. We have had a change in administration since the last AGM and I would like to welcome Janine to our wonderful and friendly Branch {Janine joined us in January 2021). As chairman I know the work and dedication that goes into running this branch and know that none of our 

achievements would be possible without our wonderful team of Trustees and Volunteers who are always willingto go that little bit extra. 

Thank you, for your continued dedication and commitment. As a branch we enjoy a good working relationship with

I would like to thank Denise McCabe who is our Branches Support Specialist who has joined us at many of our meetings and hopefully will continue to do so for many more and she has provided invaluable guidance to the Branch on several issues.

## Secretary's Report 

Well, what a year 2020 was! I don't think anyone could have expected the year to bas it was with the arrival of Covid 19. 

This of course has affected the Branch and the work we do and although it brought many problems, we have still been able to continue to support the animals in our care and the animals in our area. Our face to face meetings were unable to go ahead but with the aid of technology we have been able to keep in touch via Facetime, Emails, Calls and Messages. 

Zoe Our Branch Administrator was let go by the Branch after we felt she was not fulfilling thejobrole. Thankfully we found the wonderful Janine Fleming who is settling into therole brilliantly. 

- Our are a doesn't currently have a designated Inspector, but we are being covered by various inspectors including Chris, Amy and Robyn. 

We gained two new trustees in Keeley Walsh and Leanne Maddison and retained all the trustees we already had with the branch. Keeley was keen to help with the cats and foster them for us when she could and Leanne brings extensive knowledge of horses to the branch, something that we've not had before. 

Due to me moving house the rabbit facility needed to be moved, it was agreed that it would be moved to trustee Jenny Christophers home as I am now in rented accommodation. Due to covid this has been a longprocess and is still notcompleted but we are hoping to have it up and running asap. In the meantime, the rabbits and guinea pigs are being housed elsewhere with Mandy. 

We decided to stop boarding our cats at Sowerby Cattery owned by Dot and John Butler, this was because we felt the cats would do better in a different, more homely environment and so far, we are now only using fosterers. We are hoping to look at building our own cattery in the future. 

We have yet to find suitable facilities in our area to be able to keep dogs but in the meantime, we are providing as much welfare work in the area as we can. 



Covid 19 meant that were unable to do any fundraising in the way of tombola's, raffles etc. however we did run a successful neutering campaign which we feel makes a big difference to the number of unwanted litters in thearea thus reducing the number of stray cats and unwanted dogs, we are planning to continue to do these in the future. 

Thank you to all the trustees, members, volunteers, and Janine our branch administrator of 2020 for all your wonderful work especially with what we have all faced with Covid 19.

The Treasurer's Introduction to the Annual Accounts for 2020 

This past financial year our branch has received a bequest of £3,000 and £4,434 in local donations, we also raised £1,727 in special efforts which would have been mainly online donations due to Covid 19 restrictions. As a branch we are always really grateful for this income as it helps us fund the care of animals in our locality. 

We have had a challenging year with the global pandemic, lockdowns, and social distancing. The office had to close for a few months as Zoe needed to isolate due to health reasons, she did her best to work from home, but this proved quite difficult to maintain long term. 

We were unable to organise any fundraising this year and we also had to cancel events that we had been planning to hold. 

The branch has continued to offer neutering vouchers throughout the year where possible, and this shows with theincrease in Veterinary costs Cattery costs have reduced this year as the branch took the decision to cease using the cattery facilities. 

I would like to thank everyone for 

their continued challenging work and 

look forward to a more productive year.

## **Independent Examiner's Report To the Trustees of Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals** 

We report on the accounts of Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for the year ended 31 December 2020 which are set out on pages 18 to 19. 

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** 

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 and that an independent examination is needed. 

It is our responsibility to:- 

- examine the accounts (under section 43(3)(a) of the 1993 Act); 

- follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act); and 

- state whether particular matters have come to our attention 

## **Basis of independent examiner's report** 

Our examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from  you  as  trustees  concerning  any  such matters.  The  procedures  undertaken do  not provide all the evidence that would  be  required in an audit and consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

In connection with our examination, no matter has come to our attention: 

1. which gives us reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements 

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the 1993 Act, and 

   - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act 

   - have not been met; or 

2. to which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
