MARDER BEQUEST ALMSHOUSES CHAIRMAN'S REPORT 2023-2024 It may be a good time to consider the Marder Bequest Trust and what it stands for and achieves. The affairs of the Charity are detetrnined by rts Governing Document. Responsibilily for the management of the Charity and r(s assets is vested in the Board of Trustees, There are seven171 members all of whom act in a voluntary capacity. All were elected by the Board, The Charity employs no staff. The aim of the Charity is to provide low cost accommodation for people who live in Lyme Regis. Having a connection with the sea would give applicants an advantage. However, all applicants are considered on their own merits and individual circumstances. The Charity derives income from the weekly Maintenance Charge, interest from the Bank and interest from its investment wrth M&G Investments. The Five Year Survey was carried cut this year. No major problems reported. Work that was highlighted has been carried out and more will be done as required and needed. It proves to be a great advantage to employ, where possible, local tradesmen and to ensure that money is paid when it is due. It seems somewhat repetitive to say yet again that the Trustees carry out their duties and control of finance in their usual sensible and diligent way. l am happy to report a successful lear for both the Residents and Trustees. It is important that we always remEmber that the important people are the Residents.
FINANCIAL REPORT 2023-2024 The Charity is happy with its profitability and maintains a healthy state of affairs. The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of financial statements. These statements should give a clear view of the state of affairs of the Charity as at the date of the Balance Sheet. As the Trust now employs Accountants for book-keeping and reconciliation records this is now carried out in a very profession manner. With the Accounts being Underitten by another Accountant and then forwarded to the Charity Commission it is fair to say the Trustees are doing their very best to oversee and control the f inancial status of the Charity. Money has been transferred from te Current Account to the Deposit Account. Deposit Account now stands at and the Current Account at over £15,000.00 £10,000.00 M&G Investment does not seem to have performed as well as recent years. It may be to our advantage to speak to them. I hope to have more up to date figures at our March Meeting. The building was re-valued for insurance purposes and the building is now insured for £1,500,000. It will go up automatically with inflation etc but it is advisable to have the property valued every three {3) years. Next due 2025. K Caddy Chairman
