FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2024

The fund is regulated by rules adopted 27 April 1962 as amended 12 November 1980 as amended on 18 Jun 2020 as amended on 3 Sep 2020. The fund was registered as a charity in 1964, number 230676. The principal office of the charity is Flourish House, Cathedral Park, Wells, BA5 1FD

Objectives & Activities

The objectives of the fund are the relief of:

• any financially needy clergy and their families licensed or with permission to officiate from the Bishop of Bath and Wells within the Bath, Chew Magna, Locking, Midsomer Norton and Portishead Deaneries

• any financially needy clergy and their families residing within the said Deaneries

• any financially needy widows, widowers or partners, along with their children, of deceased clergy, who before they died were last licensed in the said Deaneries

• any financially needy former spouses or partners, along with their children, who immediately before the relationship broke down, were the spouses or partners of clergy who were licensed in the said Deaneries.

The activities are that the trustees paid out grants in accordance with the objectives.

The Area Dean of Portishead:	The Revd Robert Eastwood Dewing

All trustees are appointed ex-officio in accordance with the funds rules.

Financial Review

Total receipts for the year, including investment income, were £80,612 compared to £161,397 in 2023. £13,893 was paid out in grants and professional fees (2023: £15,997) which left an excess of receipts over payments for the year of £66,719 (2023: £145,400).

The assets of the charity are represented by bank balances of £230,313 and Central Board of Finance investments with a market value at the year end of £410,225.

Reserves Policy

Reserves are held to generate income for the charity and this income is the primary resource for the charity’s expenditure, but not exclusively so.

Public Benefit

The trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on benefit by the Commission in exercising their powers or duties.

Achievements & Performance

A total of 62 grants were paid out in the year to eligible beneficiaries, compared to 45 in 2022/23.

Statement of trustees’ responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for keeping sufficient accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed/constitution. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Archdeaconry of Bath Clerical Families Fund

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Archdeaconry of Bath Clerical Families Fund for the year ended 31[st] October 2024.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the Charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

• accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

• the accounts do not accord with those records; or

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
