TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2023

.

The Trustees are pleased to present the Statement of Account for the year ended 30 September 2023.

The trustees present their report with the financial statements for the charity for the year ended 30 September 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities Statement of recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) effective 1 January 2015.

The Charity is an unincorporated association, governed by a Trust Deed dated 17 July 1944.

Object and Activities

The object of the Charity is to support men and women who are retired and over the age of 55 and are resident or have resided in the Boroughof Bexley and surrounding area.

This is achieved through four main areas of responsibility:

(i) Trustees of the Charity

{ii) Management Committee of the Veterans Club of Bexley (iii) The House (or Social Club) Committee of the Veterans {iv) The Bowls Section of the Veterans Club of Bexley

The Charity is operated by member volunteers and there are no employees

A list of Trustees and Officers of the Club is available on request.

Financial Review

;

The most significant event this year was that finally a basis of settlement was reached regarding the claim for damage to the tarmac and drains at the rear of the club caused by tree roots. The settlement was not all we hoped for as the insurers for the school on whose land the trees stand denied responsibility for damage to the drains on the basis of some obscure legal precedent. We now have to provide a quote for the tarmac repairs which will be covered by the school’s insurance. Intervention by the club itself fed to a quote for removing the offending trees at barely 25% of the quotes the school had obtained and following a meeting with the school’s head teacher the trees came down within three weeks meaning that no further damage should ever arise. Now that the basis of a settlement has been reached- though the final payment has still to be decided- the club has decided to commence the long delayed building improvements and these will start in January 2024 with the provision of the first disabled access toilet area.

Our thanks go to all the volunteers that help keep the club open and running effectively
