## TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2022

The Trustees are pleased to present the Statement of Account for the year ended 30 September 2022.

The trustees present their report with the financial statements for the charity for the year ended 30 September 2022. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities Statement of recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) effective 1 January 2015.

The Charity is an unincorporated association, governed by a Trust Deed dated 17 July 1944.

## Object and Activities

The object of the Charity is to support men and women who are retired and over the age of 55 and are resident or have resided in the Borough of Bexley and surrounding area.

This is achieved through four main areas of responsibility:

- (i) Trustees of the Charity (ii) Management Committee of the Veterans Club of Bexley (iii) The House (or Social Club) Committee of the Veterans (iv) The Bowls Section of the Veterans Club of Bexley

The Charity is operated by member volunteers and there are no employees

A list of Trustees and Officers of the Club is available on request.

## Financial Review

The club’s activities returned to more normal levels of activity as the effect of the continuing Covid 19 Pandemic was ameliorated. Membership held up well returning to pre-Covid levels, with quite a few new members replacing the inevitable losses due to age and heath issues of the membership. Detailed consideration of a major enhancement of the club’s facilities has also continued throughout this year, but any real progress continues to be stalled due to a continuing dispute concerning damage to the drains and pavements at the rear of the club premises caused by root damage from tress in the adjoining school. Until this matter is resolved it would be impractical to commence fairly major building works.

A final grant relating to the Covid situation was received in the year together with a large legacy from a member which has led to the substantial profit for the year providing confidence that the cost of the proposed building works can be met directly from club funds.

Our thanks go to all the volunteers that help keep the club open and running effectively

## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE VETERANS CLUB OF BEXLEY

1 report on the Accounts of the Charity for the year ended 30 September 2022, which are set out on pages 2 to 6.

## Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The Charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the Accounts. The Charity's Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

## It is my responsibility to:

- e examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

- e to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and

- ® tostate whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## Basis of Independent Examiner's Report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the Genera! Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the Accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the Accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the Accounts present a ‘true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## Independent Examiner's Statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements: e to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

   - ® to prepare Accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

have not been met;

or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the Accounts to be reached.
