Objectivas and activities for the publ1¢ benefft
The principèj obj.ect of the charpty is the provision of almshouse accomm(xlation for single women who by
forca of Circumstances and resources, are in need. Prionty is gNen to women who reside in Huntingdon, and
it is this group of people which forms the ba$1$ of the pthlic benefrt provided by the chafity.

Huntingdon, in a secure and habitable state, and

Structure. governance and management
The charty is an unincorporatwj assLxiation governed by our COr￿ltu1￿)n wh￿h 1$ dated 12 November 2012.
The trustees comprise 1 ex-officK) Irustee who is the currenl incumbent of Al S8int5 and also St Ma￿3
Churches in Huntirydon, 2 nominee trustees from Huntingdon TNn Council and a maximum of 9 other
trustees. and any rew trustees are appointed by the existing Tntst*s.
ere there is a wpled trustee vacancy. the remainirvJ trustees endeavour to recruit a new trustee with
retevant experEnce, skills and an empathy with the obl￿ts of the charity.
As part of their indueliori, new trustees are provided wrth a copy of the Constrtution. the Trustees Handb¢)ok,
the Resklents Handbook, and various other relevant dc¢uments lo enab￿ them to gain a full app￿lat￿)n of
their dthies and obligations as a trustee. The T￿￿tee$ Handbook contains the charty's policies for trustee
induction, risk management, investmerrt pJlw and management of surplus funds.
The trustees meet on a quartety ba$i8 lo review the ￿sitIon and a slandard agenda is adopted lo ensure
that all matters are o)vered.
The day to day administration of propety manag￿￿nI and re5kJents issues is de￿g￿e0 to the relevant
sU￿0mmIttee, in conjunction with the CkTk to the Trust*s, but dl major decis￿n$ are either approvgj or
ratified at a full Iruslees meeting. The sub-committees are"

The charty is a member of the Ajmshouses AssLxiatk)n which offers assistan￿. advice, guidance and
encouragement lo the numerous almshouse trustee bodies to enab￿ them lo provfde suitab
a¢commodation for people in need. The Assctkation also represents these charities with the Charty
Commission, Hornes England. and Ihe ReguLqtor of Socral Housing, the Land Registry and other
Government departments.
A¢hievemants and pgrfommnce
Residents- Our ￿SIdents continue to thrive and supw)rt one another, both in practical and emotional ways.
One of our residents has had a few visits to hospttal during the year but is now well and at home. This
resident does have mobility issues imrt can still manage in her own home. albeit she is now housebound.
The Trustees invited the residentsi plus a guest. to afternoon tea at The George in Huntingdon in May and
this was well atterbded and enjoyed by all. They were gNen an update on the Quinquennial report by the
Chairman.
There were no changes to our residency over the year and so occupation remains at l(KM.
The Chairman and Clerk have rnade regular vlstt5 to the occupants. these are mostly of a social nature and
also when requests were made for asslstance. The visrts are to ensure their well being and reminding them
that we are available to be called on, if needed. Two of ourTrustees also make regular visits of a similar
nature. We are pleased to report that the disruption and woThy caused by ihe pandemic 15 no longer
major concern to our residents.
Residents receive cards and flowers on their birthdays and Cards at major festiva15 including a Sainsbury's
voucher at ChrSstmas.
At the end of 2021 there were 10 eX￿fFIC￿, nominated and co-opted trustees, leaving 2 vacancies for new
twstees and the tnjstees are commttted to having a Board of Trustees with var￿d but complimentary skllls
to benefit our ￿SIdentS and the charity. It is noted that there Is still a ￿tentIal vacancy for someone with a
legal background in property and human resources.

The twstees maintaingd their awareness oftheir own performan￿ framework established in 2015 as

To maintain a high level of attendance at trustee meetings (1, re￿, and 3 Zoom meetings in 20211 and this
was noted as 88%1202tk88%1.
To ensure a minimum of 4 quartety meetings and this was xhieved in 2021.
Due to Covid any relevant eourses for Trustees coukl nct be made available.
. To confim) trustees, complk4nc¢ with its own Trustees Handbook. any requirements ofthe Almshouse
Association, and regulators, The Charity Commission. This was brought up to date as required, and also
through the normal process of management there was rto evidence of any non-compliance.
To review the risk regi8ter annualty or more fr￿Uenty as required and this was reviewed in Iyht of the
pandemic.
Flnanclal revlew and reser¥es
The charty had a Successful year &hiwng a surplus tefore transfws of £29,603 {2020- SLWUS of
£27.237} and the outstanding loans were rèjuced by £30,870 {2020- £19,960).
The Injstees prepare an annL¢al budget and the results were in line wrth the eX￿ted results and the budget
for 2022 shows the surplus being maintained and gNes assurance lo the tntstees that the charty continues
lo be a going concern for the next 12 months.
The charty's policy wth respect to reserve5 is to retain 12 months expendrture lexeluding deprecialionl in
separate a¢¢cwnl and 2021 confim)ed that revenue expenditu￿ and Capital repayments amounted to
approximatety £40,000. At the end of the 2021 the charity had £42.053 in a separate depo5tt account to
represent this resetvfr.

The charity has taken advantsge of the promsions in the SORP for charities apptying FRS 102

The accounts have been prepared on a going concern basis as the trustèes belEve that no material
uncertainty e￿Sts. The trustees have considered the level of funds held, and the expected levels of
income and expenditure for 12 months from approving these accounts. The budgeted income arKI
expenditure is suffiC￿nI, together with the level of reserves held for the charity to be able lo continue
as a going concern.
