The trustees presént their annual report and financial statemènts for the year ended SApril 2024.
The finanaal statements have been prèpared in aG￿rdance wth tha accounting policies set out in note 1 to the
financial statèmènts and comply with the charitys trust deed. the Charities Act 2011 and'Aecounting and Reporting
by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to chariti85 pTeparing their accounts in accordance
with the Financial Reporting Standafd applicable in the UK and Rèpublic of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffectivè 1 January

Objectives and actlvitles
Objectives and actlvlties for the public benefit
The charity's objects are the advancement of Èducation, moral and social ImpTtsvement of people and maintaining
Church of England Churches. Such aid will be given lo the piomders of education and relevant Insts"tutions through
making gran15. The Trust885 eonfimi that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Cha￿ty Commission's
gener81 guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Trusvs aims and objoetives and in planning future a¢tivitie5
and setting the grant making policy for tha yaar.
Potential reeipients of grants are identified by Twstèes in areas where il is p8rc8ivèd that public benefit will be
achieved and the opportuftity to benefit is nol restricted in any way, not least to facililale the Tnjslees being able to
follow up the efficacy of the grants made. In all other aspects grants are not limited in any way excèpt that the
fwp¢ents should have a tharilable negd.

The Trustees hold the funds upon Trust lo pay at thèir discretion income and capital for eharitable purposes, with

Colman Ltd or other clubs and in5ts"tutions associated ¥vilh Sir Jeremiah Colman.
The Trust does not activèly fund raise and seeks to continuè the philanthropic work desired by the Setlor through
the catèful stewardship of its existing resources.
Gifts and donatkns are made lo many Charities èach year and occasionally to individuals. The Trustees prefer lo
support donations to Charities whose work thèy have researched and which is in aecordanee with the aims and the
objectives of the Chanty for the year.
Most of the donations are rnade on an on-going annual basis, whi¢h the Trustees anticipate making bul which ar
subject to funds available. The Trustees respond lo new appeals and make exira donations upon review of suitable
applications. In addition. there is a further rategtsry of donations to support speaal charitable projects being
undertaken over a fixed number of years and whilst the Trustees intent to wntinuè and support those selected
projects if circumstancas change the Trustees reserve the right to caase their support at 8ny time. Donations are
only eonlinued where Ihe applicant provides sufficient relevant infomation to the Tru51ees and satOsfie$ th& Trustees
that continuation of funding is in the intertrsts of Ihe Charity.
Grant making policy
The Charity has èstablished its grant making policy to aehieve its objectiv95 for the public banefil to improve the
lives of people sufferir¥J from ffinancial hardship. Financial arcumstsnees will be relevant only in d8temining the
amount ol the award_
Grants arè gNen to registered charities which the Trustees have resear¢h¢d and which the Trustees know support
the public as a who￿.
The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by tho Charity Commission in deciding what a¢t¢vilias the
charity should undertake.

Achievements and performance
Al their annual meets"ng. the Trustees consider the level of donations that they are able lo make based upon thè
latest valuation of the tTusI funds and thè lik81y income to be generated in the current ffnancial year. Trustees
sh to ensure a sustainable level of donations reflecting the total retum of income and capital growth, and after
providing for inveslmenl fees and administrative o)sts.
In the year ended 5th April 2024 the distributions were 1.81%12023.' 1.98%) of the funds invested and the yield on
the funds inve51ed was 2.350A12023- 2.54%).
The charitable donations made in the year ended 5th April 2024 lolalled £163.92512023.' £178,600) a decrease of
£14.67512023'. increase of £23.7001 from the previous year. This is considered to be satisfactory hawng regard lo
the income genorat&d. 3nd the need to take a defensive view as lo the value of the lund given present political and
economic inskbility. An analysis of amounts donatèd are detailed in note e.
The Trustees are pleased that the donations being made are b&ing dirècted 19 th95e projects that the Trust wishes
to support. The Trustees continuè lo lake an active role in visiting v8ri0us organisalions to ascertain how the Trust's
support can make a differenee. The Tru51 also re￿iVeS letters of thank and gratitude which further confimis that the
Tru51 and the donations il is rnaking is benefiting Lx)th society and individuals.
The Trustee5 note that the rnarket valtse of the capital assets of ttie Trust stood at £9.21e,81612023: £9.116,578).

Financial review
The Trust received income of £217,99712023'. £229,128) from shares and sècuritiès quoted on the Stock Exchange
and Interest èamed on cash balances wrth bank and slockbroker5.
The Trust incurred expenses totalling £63.183 for th6 year ènded 5th April 2024 12023.. £68,351>. Of these
exp6nsès £15.135 12023 £14.6181 were charitable support eost5 CQrnPrising all costs involving the public
accountability of thè charity ¥nd compliance wth regulation and good practice as detailed in notè S. The balance of
£48,04812023.' £53,7331 represents stockbroker management fees.

The Unrestricted Income Fund has an unapplied balancè as at 5th April 2024 of £168.907 {2023'. £129,970).
The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to prowda futur& income for distribution by Truslè&s lo further the purpose
of the Charity.

Investment and re$erve policy
It is the policy of the charity that unrestricted fund5 which have not been designated for a specific use should be
distributed so that distributions will m¥lch or exceed the income so that no unrestricted reserves wll be held_ Th8
trustees eonsideTr that reserves at this level will ensure that. in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be
able to ￿ntInue the eharity's current activities while consKlerab"on Is given lo ways in which additional fund5 rnay be
raised. This level of reservès has been maintained throughout thè yéar.
Th8 trustaes have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed. ènd 8re satisfied that systems are in
place to mitigate exposure to Ihe major nsks. The major risks identified by thé Trustees are the volatility of
investrnent rebjms on the management portfolio and the proper use of the gifts and donations given by thè Charity
each year.

year.
The Sir Jeremlah Colman Gift Colman Gfft T￿￿1 is a lasl.ng tsstimonial to the generosity and philanthropic ¢onc8rns
of donor, Sir Jeremiah Colman. By maintaining and improving partnerships alrèady in place the Trustees are helpiro
th8 tong term goals of the charitabl• work they support.
The Trust68s wll continue lo direct the ¢haritls fttnds to general charitable causes which they think fit as laid out in
the governing trust document.

The tharity is an unincorporated registered Charity, èstablished by Sir Jeremiah Colman BT undèr a govemirKJ
Deed of Trust dated 26th June 1920. The Trustees, principal office and advisc>rs are as detailed on page 1.

Tha current Truste85 have 8Cted for many years. The Trustees are dirgded to hold the capital and income of the
Trust Fund on trust for such charitseg and for such charitable purposes, as they In their absolute discretion think ffit.
The present cx)mplèment of Trustees is five. Tru5tee5 $9Nè an indafinite temi based on their relative experiencg
and contribution to the charity as a whole. The Truslegs keep the skill requirements of the Tru51ee body under
review and in the event Ihat 8 Trusteè retires or additional new Trustees arè required, the existing Trustees
Collectively discuss the change. Thére is no fomial induction or training of new Trustees. However, appointment is
by nominatitsn and the Trustees review the skills of each nominated person 10 select membeTS Wlth thè rèlevant
experienca and skills. All Trustee5 give Iheir11mè fraèly and no remuneration or expenses were paid during thè year.
On the agreement of all ex15ting Trustees, a new Trustee may be recruited. Thè background to the charity is
provided to the prospective new Trustee before appointment and fvrther inftrrmation is then shared al regular
Trusts? meetings. This information includes a bllef history of the charity. a copy of the previous year's finanaal
statements. a copy ofthe prewous Trustee's Mlnules, and of the governing Trust deed.
Al the Trustees, meets.ng which usually take place in July each year the Trustees agree tre broad strategy and afeas
of activity for the Charity, including consideration of grant ma￿ng, investment, rèsèrvas and risk management
ptsliei6s and perfomiance. The day to day administration of grants and the processing and handlin9 of applications
prior to considèratton ol the Trustees is delegated tts the Secretary and Bookkeeper belween Trustees, me8tings_
Assisling the Trustees. Mis Persson aciing as Secretary and Administrator records new grant applications meeting
the rélavant erlteria for con5Kler8lion by the Trustees. Mrs Persson also updates thè donation monitoring
nformalion 0)n￿rnIng the support yivan to dale, and presents the inforMat￿n to thè Trustèès prior to each
meeting.

1.1 Accounting convention
The financial stslemenls havè been prepared in a¢(x>rdance with the charity's governing Deed of Trust dated
26th June 1920, the Charities Act 2011 and "Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of
Raeommended Practie8 applicable to charthes preparing their accounts in accordance wth the Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffeclve 1 Janukry 20191 The
¢harily is a Public Beneffit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The charity has taken advantsge of the provisions in the SORP for charitiès applying FRS 102 Update Bullglin
1 not to prèparg a Statement of Cash Flows.
The financtal statements are prepared in sterfing, which is th8 functs'onal curren¢y of the charity. Monetary
amounts in these fsnan(aal statements are rounded to the nearest £.
The financial stat8menls have been prepared under Ihe historical cost eonvents"on, Imodified to include th
revaluation ol freehold prop8rts"88 and to include Investment properties and ¢ertain financial instrum•nts at fair

1.2 Going ￿)Cern
At the lime of approving the financial statements, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity
has adequate resourctr5 to continue in opèrational existen￿ for the foreseeable future. Thus the trustees
continue to adopt thè going concern bas15 of accounting in preparing Ihe finanaal statam8nls.
1.3 Charltable fvnds
Unrestricted funds are availabl8 for use al the (fiscrèb"on of the trustees in furtherance of their charitsble
objects'ves.
Restricted funds are subject to spe¢ific conditions by donors or grantors as to how they may be used. The
purposes and uses of the restricted lund5 are set out in the note5 to the finaneial statements.
Endowment tunds are subject to spe¢ific cKJnditions by donors Ihat the caiytal must be maintsined by the
charty.
1.4 Income
Income is recognised when the charity is legally entided to it aftar any performance eondttrons have been met,
the amunts can ￿ measured reliably, and it is probable that inwme wll be received.
Income from Ilsted investments
Dlvidends and interest from listed investments are credited to thè ststemenl of ffinancaal a¢tivilies when they
are receivable by tre charity.
Interèst
Bank interest is (Tediled to the ststemenl of finaneial actiwties when it is reeelvable by the charity.

1.5 Expenditure
Expenditure is included in the statemènt of finanaal actNilies whén incurred and indudes attributable VAT
which cannot bè rècovered.
The cost of raiyng fund5 comprise those costs direcuy 8ttributable to managing the chartvs Inv8stmgnt
portfolio and raising investment income.
Charitabltr activitles comprise don8tt.ons payable in the pursuance of the objectives of Ihe challty and in
meeting the costs of administering the donation programme. Donations payable are chargèd in the year when
the offer is convey8d to the recipient except in those cases where the offer is conditional such donations
being recognised as expenditure when the conditions attached to them are fulfilled. Donations offered subjact
to eonditions which have not beèn mat at the year end
are noted as commitments bul not 8(xtued as
expenditure in the accounts . In addrtion charitable activities comprisè support costs which are necessary for
complbancè with statutory requirements.
1.6 Fixed as$Èt Investments
Fixed asset investments are initially measured at transaction paca excluding transaction costs, and arg
subsequently Treasured at fair value al each reporting date. Changes in fair value are recognised in nel
In￿Me1{eXPend1tUr8I for the year. Transaction c0515 are expensed as incurred.
1.7 Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents include Cash in hand. deposits held al cal wth banks, other short-term liquid
investments with original maturities of three rnonths or lèss, and bank overdrafts. Bank avèrdrafts are shown
within borrowngs in eurrent liabilities.
Basi¢ financlal ass8ts
Basic fjnancial assets, which includè debtors and cash and bank balances, are initially measured ot
transaction price including Iransactitrn costs and are subsequently c8rri8d at amortised cost using Ihe effectnia
interest rnethod unless the arrangernent constitutes a financing IransactK)n, whèrè Ihè transaction is
measured at tha present value of the fvlure receipts discounted at a market rate of Interest. Financial assets
classffied 8$ recewable within one year are not amortised.
Basic financialliabiliti•s
Basie financial liabilities, including cr6ditors and bank loan5 are initially reeognised al transaction price unless
the arrangement conslilules a finanang transaction, Whe￿ thè debt instrument is measured at the pr6s•nt
value of thè fubjre payments discounted al a market rate of interest. Finanaal liabilities dassffied as payable
within one year are not amortised.
Debt inslruments aro $ubs6quently carried at amortis8d cost, using the effe¢lNe interest rate method.
Trade creditors are obligations lo pay for goods or service5 that have been acquired in the ordinary coursè of
operations fr¢m suppliers. Amounts payable are classified as current liabilib.es if payment is due within one
year or less. If not, they are presented as non-current liabilities. TT8de crèditors are recognised initially al
transaction price and subséquenily measured al arnortised cost using the effective interest method.
Derecognition of financial liabilitie$
Financial liabilities are derecognisèd when the charity's contractual obligations expire or are di5ch8rgÈd or
cancelled.

and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other

are consldered lo be relevant. Actual results may differ trom thes& eslimales.
