Prestbury WI Trustees Report

Year to 31[st] August 2024

This year has been a busy one. Between January and April 2024 substantial building work was carried out to the hall and its facilities. The work included the refurbishment of the toilets and lobby area and the provision of a ramped access and handrails to the main entrance door. During the work there was some disruption to the WI clubs and outside lets who use the hall so to celebrate the completion of the renovations an Afternoon Tea was organised by the Events Committee in June.

Other one-off events for WI members included a tour of the local Everyman Theatre, an Easter floral display workshop, a visit to Showborough Gardens and a Christmas wreath workshop. This is along with our regular monthly meetings and various groups including a weekly afternoon social, Tai Chi and Ukulele groups, fortnightly line dancing, monthly book clubs and walking group and our annual Birthday and Christmas meal.

In addition, the WI organised a Christmas Craft Fair, a soup and pudding lunch and a hugely successful Fashion Show. These events were open to the local community to attend as well as our WI members.

The hall is also used throughout the week by a range of permanent lets and in May 2024 was used as a wedding venue for a bride who has grown up in Prestbury.

As well as undertaking our many regular activities the WI continues to support food and period poverty by donations made at our monthly meetings. The WI also supports members who are involved with local charities by advertising and attending events.

Prestbury Women’s Institute continues to be led by a dedicated president who is supported by an effective committee. This structure is supported by a number of subcommittees who focus on specific topics. These include a Catering Committee, a Hall Committee and an Events Committee.

This year there has been a change in Trustees for the hall and a big thank you goes to the retiring trustees, Sheila Beer, Linda Matthews and John Petchey. The new Trustees appointed in April 2024 are Nicky Wye, Penny Slatter and Gill Wood. Ann Hughes has agreed to continue as a trustee.
