## **FRINTON ON SEA WI COMMITTEE’S ANNUAL REPORT 2024 – 2025**

Welcome to our 103[rd ] Annual Meeting! We are an amazing group of ladies who wish to share our experiences with each other, who are enthusiastic to learn, who are willing to help in our local community and who enjoy spending time together.

Membership numbers during 2024 to 2025 again exceeded all of our expectations and I would also like to extend a warm welcome to all our new members!

This is a summary of our year in review and together we have had a wonderful time! In this report, I have tried to capture us, who we are and the things we have done together and I apologise in advance for any omissions I may have made.

## **Our Meetings – Afternoon and Evening**

Our WI has traditionally held Evening Meetings however, since March 2023 we have also been offering Afternoon Meetings once a month for our members and this has been a remarkable success. Members can now attend either afternoon or evening meetings or attend both meetings.

The committee extends their appreciation to everyone who helps to organise our meetings, your support is invaluable and much appreciated at each and every meeting.

Our Frinton WI Programme has been varied and we hope it contains something for everyone. As a brief summary, we had a fascinating insight into the life of the Special Operations Executive in WWII with Katie Cole when we learned about three incredible women, Nancy, Noor and Christine. We enjoyed a fun afternoon listening to Chris Bishop who entertained us all with his Short Songs and Tall Stories. We then were captivated by Stephen Gibbs who shared the highlights of this extensive career in the police force and told us some extraordinary crime stories in the process. We have all appreciated the fabulous programme this year and can look forward to even more fascinating speakers in 2025/26.

Information about our WI, meetings and events can be found in our brilliant monthly Newsletter edited by Jean Mockford and also on our social media, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp Groups. Thank you to our fantastic Social Media Team who post news and events on a regular basis.

## **Subcommittees**

The committee would like to thank all of the Subcommittee Leads for their dedication and time in organising their groups by also using a WhatsApp Group; we are very immensely proud of you all and most grateful for the outstanding work you do for our WI.

- Kathy Stapleton organised our first WI ‘Reclaim the Night Vigil’ held in November 2024 to raise awareness and support for the WI Campaign, _No More Violence against Women and Girls._

Our chosen charity for 2024/25 was St Helena Hospice, Herts and Essex Air Ambulance and Tendring Specialist Stroke Services.

Tabletop Sales were held until end of 2024 and the proceeds went to St Helena Hospice in memory of our dear Sue Chotipong. The tabletop sales were the brainchild of Alison Porteous and both Alison and Brenda Kettle rallied members to raise a staggering £7200. We were honoured to present a cheque to St Helena Hospice with Sue's husband and friends present.

We are continuing with the tabletops as part of our charity fundraising this year for Herts and Essex Air Ambulance.

Members have supported the local Foodbank with their kind donations of female hygiene products to help women in our local community.

Also, together we made it happen and we now have a shiny new kitchen in the McGrigor Hall, a fabulous improvement to the facilities we offer at the McGrigor Hall.

Finally, the committee would like to thank each and every one of our wonderful members for their support, **together we are a brilliant team** and hope that you are as proud as we are to be a part of the WI who this year is celebrating 110 years and is the largest and most influential women’s organisation in the UK.

Written by Mary O’Connor, Secretary on behalf of the **Frinton WI Committee / 18 May 2025**
