CHAIRMANS REPORT REDRUTH CHARITY TRUST APRIL 2023
This has been a very difficult year for the trust and family life has been hard hitting. Last year 3 trustees lost their Mums and one lost his wife.
These are devastating life changing times. On top of this our treasurer Malcolm and Rachael our Secretary tendered her resignation after both had completed a 3 year term. We signed up Monique as our new treasurer and she is settling in well. We have just recruited Carly, Melissa, Kerrie and Scott who will bring new skills to the Trust as we operate from a base of 10 Trustees.
We now start our 30[th] Anniversary year and we want to celebrate.
We had our Community Awards presentation Night at Penventon Park Hotel in October and we are still running low on only 15 clubs applying so we need to work on this. We will have a plan to implement from May. We had 5 Sponsors in the team.
The Fred Harris Education Awards scheme was again supported by Amazon Redruth who donated 10 x £50 vouchers to the individual winners in schools.
We donated books about Cornish history and Heritage plus Cornish authors and Cornish stories. Then we added some reading books on the environment which were all well received. Over 250 books donated in July. We have grown our Sponsors to 14 albeit on smaller tiers of funding.
All books sourced locally from Tormark Books in St Day.
In February Ellie Jackson the Wild Tribes author from Looe visited 5 of our schools to read one of her books and have a question time session with the children. This was a great success funded by the trust.
The Youth Sports Award presentation was hosted by Redruth School in May. 19 Clubs were supported with 28 Sponsors in the team. All kit was sourced from Cornish Granite Sports. A fantastic night for all concerned.
Fundraising We continue to receive funeral collections donated and thank Richard Putt at Dignity for this. We had the final Chairs BBQ in June which raised £2,200. We have hosted 6 events over the past few difficult years and raised nearly £9,000 so its time to try a different event this year.
We were Tesco Redruth charity of the month in April and they donated £505.
In The Chair I have had a busy year. As A Terry Pryor Trust trustee I have helped to set up and run this new charity. Anna also helped them with their website.
The Sponsors Reward Day at Redruth RFC attracted 80 guests and a good networking day.
I switched on the Towns Christmas Lights which was ruined by a day of torrential rain with everything cancelled except an indoor switch on. Most disappointing.
Redruth Learning Group held their first Presentation night for 3 years and I continue to be a Director at Trewirgie Junior School.
I have maintained links with Rotary and Lions Clubs.
From March 1[st] I have been out signing up Sponsors which takes a lot of time but will this give us a strong financial base for the next 3 years.
THANKYOU Anna designed 150 Christmas cards and we went out and delivered to our Sponsors, Supporters and Clubs. Always good to meet people.
Anna has worked wonders on our website and Social Media profile which means we get our message across more than we used to.
Alan has worked wonders on the mike, erecting gazebos and entertaining us. We hope his new knees get him more mobile.
Thanks to Anna for designing our 2023-26 Sponsors Brochure and Jennifer for the printing. They are very professional documents which have been well received.
We have endured 3 difficult covid years plus inflation and fuel costs so to survive now is an achievement.
The Community needs us as a local charity and remember that we are UNIQUE that no other town in Cornwall delivers the 3 Award schemes that we do.
I thank all 5 current trustees for their support over the last year.
I look forward to our new recruits and launching the New Sponsors Team.
Keeping our motto important. MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN REDRUTH
