## **TRUSTEES’ REPORT ON THE YEAR 6 APRIL 2020 – 5 APRIL 2021** 

## 1 FOUNDATION OF THE TRUST 

The Macfarlane Walker Trust was founded in 1963 by James Macfarlane Walker of Cheltenham, Glos for general charitable purposes and in particular for provision of facilities for recreation and social welfare in Gloucestershire; the relief of poverty and hardship among employees and former employees of Walker Crosweller & Co Ltd; the provision of educational facilities particularly in scientific research; and the encouragement of music, drama and the fine arts. 

## 2 GRANTS AND DONATIONS 

A list of the donations made is included in the accounts.  Total donations were £37,196.  The Trustees continued their support for charitable activity in Gloucestershire, contributions to music students for instrument purchase and donating monies to causes where the Trust’s contribution will make a significant difference to the recipient. 

## 3 FINANCE 

The Trust’s investment funds are invested in M&G Charifund units.  The Trustees do not solicit funds from the public or other sources. 

## 5 MANAGEMENT 

The Trustees during 2020-21 were: 

David Walker, a retired economist and grandson of the founder of the Trust. 

Catherine Walker, a public relations executive and great granddaughter of the founder of the Trust. 

The Trustees’ scheduled meeting for March 2021 could not take place.  The Trust business was conducted by email. An AGM is scheduled for March 2022. 

Sophie Walker, daughter of David Walker, acted as Hon Secretary during the year. 

Accounts were produced on behalf of the Trustees by Raymond Carter & Co, Chartered Accountants.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES
Charity law requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each finaneial year which give a
true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the surplus or deficit of the Charity for that
period.
In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to select suitable accounting
policies and then apply them consistently-, make judgements and eslimales that are reasonable and
prudent,. prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless il is inappropriate lo
assume that the Charity will continue in existence.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable
accuracy al any time the financial position of the Charity. They are also responsible for safèguarding
the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of
fraud and other irregularities.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES
We report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 5 April 2021, which are set out on pages 3 10 6.
Respectivè responsibilities of trusteos and examiner
The charitls Iruslees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charitys Iruslee5 consider
that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 I'lhe 2011 AGt')} and
that an independent examination is needed.

lo slate whether particular matters have come lo our attention.
Basis of Indèpèndent examiner's roport
Our examination was carried out in accordance with the Ggneral Dirt¢lions given by the Charity
Commissioners. An examination includes a revièw of the accounting records kept by the charity anol a
comparison of the accounts presented with those records. 11 also includes consideration of any unusual
ems or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees Goncerning any such
matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit. and
consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Indepèndent examiner's statement
In connection wrfch our examination. no matter has come lo our attent￿n..
111 which gives us reasonable Cause lo believe that in any material respect the requirements
lo keep accourhting records in accordance with Section 130 of the 2Q11 Act", and
lo prepare accounts which accord w(th the accounting records and comply with the
