**Objects:** FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC: (A) TO ENCOURAGE THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES OF THE CITY AND ITS SURROUNDINGS. (B) TO PRESERVE THE ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CITY. (C) TO PROMOTE ARCHAELOGICAL AND ANTIQUARIAN INTERESTS BY RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION, AND TO SUPPORT THE CANTERBURY ARCHAEOLOGICAL TRUST.

**Activities:** The society arranges lectures for its members during the winter period,of a historical and/or archaeological nature,and during the summer months,excursions to places of historical interest.The society also has a fund from which an annual grant is made to an individual or individuals who are undertaking historical or archaeological  research relating to the Canterbury area.
