The charity wa5 fornied on 2 1st May 1991 and registered und¢r the Charities Aei. r¢gistration number 226547.
The charity is governed under a Charity Commissioii Schetne dated I st Oclober 2002.
The board of Trustees ha5 di5¢retion to appoint new trustees. It 15 the policy of the charity that trustees. both ne
and exisiing, attend as many tTUStee meetings as possible. which ar¢ nomially held half yearly. New trustee5 are
guided througli their responsibilities bj, the serving trllstees.
Govemance, management and financial conirol are administered from the charity's prop¢rty 30 Queens
Promenade, North Shore, Blackpool, FY2 9RN. All major decisions are tnade by the iNstees.

The trustees confirm they have ref¢rr¢d to th¢ guidance contained in the Charity Commissioners. general
guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's obj¢¢tives and future plans.
The principal charitable objective of the tharity 15 as follows=
The provision and maintenance of a convales¢ent home for the benefit of workers who are or have been
employed in the coal industry in the Lancashire, Cheshire, Stafford5hire, North Wales. Worcestershire and
Shropshire districts of the British Coal Corporation.

trustees may perniit tl)e following persons to Use the convalescent horne upon su¢h ternis and at such charges as
the tnJ5tees may fi'om time to time deternjine.
Convalescenee for workers who are or who have becn employed in the eoal industry in areas oiher than the area
of benefit.

have beeii etnployed in the coal industr> in the area of benefit and who are unable because of disability or for

Promoting and improving the healih, Social well being and condilions of living for the beneficiaries and their
spouses ivhen aitending as guests at the home.

The trusiees consider that they have met their obj¢¢tiv¢s for the cuTr¢Dt financial year and have continued io
provide the level of servi¢e io guests, when p0s5ible to do so and desplte the background of a global pandeinic.

deiermincd by ihe level of funds held. 'I'he trnstees consider That the level of reserves currently held is suffi¢ient
for the charity to operale for at leasi the next twenty years.
Reserves poliey
xpenditure exceeds income annually and as custodiaiis of the charity's funds it is the trustee5' policy io
maintain re%erves ai as high a level as possible givell the current economic climate. The charity heavily relies on
thc perfomiance of its Investments in order to achieve its principal objective. The perforniance of these
investments can be seen in the accounts at Note 12.
Pl#ns for future periods
The charity will continue to carry ou( ils main charitable activity and purpose and has no plans to increase or
curtail the ¢UTrent level of activity.
The Irustees recognise that the charity's operations have a finite life bui consider ihat the funds held will b¢
su(ficieni io be able io continue io provide the level of service lo the charÉty's beneficiaries for the foreseeable
fuiure.
Trustees, responsibilities in relatlon to the finaneixl Statements
The irusiees are responsible for preparing the Trusiees. Report and the financial 5taternents in accordan¢¢ with
applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (Unired Kingdom Generally Accepted A¢¢ounting
Practice).
Trustees are required by ihe law applicable 10 chariiies in Engjland and Wales io prepare financial siatements for
each financial year which give a true and fair view of the chariry's state of affairs and its incoming resources and
application of resource for thai period. In pr¢par2ng those financial statements, th¢ tru5t¢es are r¢quir¢d to-
select suitable accounting policies and apply th¢m ¢onsistently',
observe the methods and principle5 in the Charities SORP;
make judgements and estimates ihat are reasonable and prudent;
state whether applicable accounting siandards have been followed. Subject to any material departures
disclosed and explained in the financial siatemenis,. and
prepare the financ2al sta(ements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume thac ihe
charity will continue in operaiion.

Respeetive responslbilities of trustees and cxamincr
The trusrees are responsible for rhe preparation of the accounts. The trnsl¢¢s consider that an audit is not
required for this year under section 14412) of the Charities Act 201 Ilthe 2011 Act) and that an iTrdep¢iident
examination is needed.

accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures

Basis of preparatlon
The financial sratements have been prepared und¢r th¢ historical cost convention and in accordan¢e with
the Statement of Recoinmended Practice 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities (SORP 2005}', issued in
March 2005, applicable accounting sthndards and the Chariiies Act 2011.
Fund aceounting policy
Unrestt'icied income funds are general funds that are available for use at the trusiees, discretion in
furtherance of the objectives of the charity.
Further details of each ￿nd are disclosed in note 14.
Incoming resource5
Investment in¢ome is r¢cognised on a receivable ba515. The income is derived directly from the
inv¢stn]¢nt5 h¢ld by the charity.
Resources cxpcndcd
Liabilities are recognis¢d a5 soon as th¢re is a l¢gal or ronstructiv¢ obligation committing the ¢harity lo the
expenditure. All exp¢nditur¢ is accounted for on an a¢crnals bagis and ha5 be¢n classified under headings
thar aggregate all c051s related to t]ie ¢at¢gory.
Costs of generating funds are the costs a550¢iat¢d with attracting voluntory income.
Charitable expenditure ¢ompri5¢S those eosts incurr¢d by the charity in the delivery of its activities and

costs of an indirect nature ￿¢￿Sary to support them.

The charity operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions are charged in the siatement of
