Warkworth War Memorial Hall Management Committee Chairman’s Report for AGM 6th October 2021
I am delighted to say that we are up and running again following a long period of Hall closure and limits on usage due to Covid restrictions. Financially we remain sound thanks to government grants covering this period.
The Hall re-opened on the 17th May and restrictions on usage were removed on the 19th July. General safety advice remains, including cleaning of hands and good ventilation. Take up was initially slow, but summer has always been a quiet period for Hall bookings. Usage from October onwards looks sound.
Music concerts recommenced on the 21st August with a lottery funded concert by Alistair Anderson. The £1k grant also covered two photography/music events provided by Andy Craig, purchase of Coffee Morning consumables and licence/DVD purchases for the film club.
We are grateful to Jon and Anna Willey who have voluntered to restart monthly films. There has been a lot of background work for this venture with the first film scheduled for the 2nd October.
We look forward to a Coffee Morning on October 9th, where individual groups have been offered the chance to promote their activities. This is the first for a considerable time and we thank Marion Jones, Janet Buist, Sheila Pearson and Sandie Saunders for organising this.
Although closed for much of the time, continuous building maintenance has been required along with regular safety checks. Unfortunately the Library refurbishment has suffered slightly from a leak in the roof. This has been repaired, but we still have a minor problem in this area. The Library has reopened, but with one of the prespex ceiling boards removed while we monitor the problem. Drainage repair has been carried out near the vestibule external doors, to prevent water ingress in the basement. Work has commenced on repointing the north wall, for which we have obtained some grant funding from both the County Council and the Parish Council.
Thanks to all Trustees for your assistance in managing the Hall. We have been joined by Sandie Saunders as representative of the Parish Council and Angela Mein as the new representative of the Art Group. Janet Buist has expressed a willingness to remain on the Committee and I would welcome her assistance in developing our publicity and our social events at the hall. Belinda Booth has indicated that she wishes to stand down as Minutes Secretary.
