_JF highlighted the big expenditure projects including the new Rhos shop, the refit_
_of the Craig y Don shop and the payment of medical supplies where the invoice_
_had gone astray. FT highlighted the need to develop strategies to avoid future_
_deficits and to generate income. DH confirmed this would be an integral part of_

_report 2024_|_DH thanked CL for submitting the report. The report was accepted by the_
_meeting, with ZM proposing and FT seconding._
_Two issues of note are the Orme goats - generate negative publicity more than_
_any other issue. LH and CL confirmed that they were sitting on the Great Orme_
_goat management group. Although safeguarding the goats is important, the need_
_for collective responsibility amongst all stakeholders was crucial, so CL and LH_
_do not lead on this._

_report_|_LH presented the report to the meeting. She highlighted issues of note - including_
_several staffing secondments, maternity, progression of staff and notable_
_rescues including a pig, a swan and two fallow deer._
_DH thanked LH for all her and her team’s work. FT asked if there was anything_
_the team needed. LH said that dog spaces were a priority as reaching saturation_
_point. Collaborative working would be a great way forward, so the committee_
_agreed to a group meeting. Increasingly, it is becoming necessary to try and keep_
_animals in their homes and support owners rather than sign them over. This_
_needs to be out target market - owners who need support and education rather_
_than intentional cruelty._

The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities' issued in March 2005._ ## **Structure, Governance and Management** _The RSPCA Aberconwy Branch is an unincorporated charitable association and a separately registered branch of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (the Society), carrying out its direct animal welfare work throughout its territory from Llandudno in the North and Cwm Penmachno in the South, and from Llanfairfechan in the West and Bryn y Maen to the East._ 8 Registered Charity: 224340 **RSPCA ABERCONWY BRANCH** Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals _The charity is controlled by its governing document and constitutes an unincorporated charity. The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error._ ## **Objectives and Activities** _The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Aberconwy Branch is run to help prevent cruelty and to aid sick and injured animals within its local area. As part of the Wales Board, we also support financial initiatives within Wales in consultation with the Branch Committee._ _The trustees have reviewed the outcomes and achievements of our objectives and activities for the year, to ensure they remain focused on our charitable aims, and continue to deliver benefits to the public. We have complied with the duty under the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Commission._ ## **Achievements and Performance** _Welcome to our Annual General Meeting! Outlined below are the Branch’s main achievements over the year._ _2024 has been a busy year for the branch with exciting changes across all of our services. Covered below are the highlights of what we hope will be the start of an exciting period of growth and development for both the branch and increased support for animals in our branch area and beyond._ ## **Our Charity Shops** _In February we opened our first new shop for more than 40 years in Rhos on Sea which has been really successful. A huge thanks to all the Volunteers who work in the new shop and maintain it beautifully._ _As our projections showed, we needed more_ _shops to cover the rising cost of the clinics (drug prices are so expensive), so we set about finding a location for a third shop which we did in the latter stages of the year. On 9th December we successfully opened our second new shop at Mostyn Street in Llandudno that is perfectly positioned to attract the large number of day trippers that_ 9 Registered Charity: 224340 **RSPCA ABERCONWY BRANCH** Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals _visit the town. Many thanks to Carl Lloyd, Dawn Hibble and everyone who helped to set up and open both shops so successfully._ _Our original shop in Craig y Don continues to generate much needed income for us and showcase our work and is staffed by, like all of our shops, Dawn and the amazing shop volunteer teams. Craig y Don has long been a favourite for our supporters, so we hope our new shops will similarly develop local community support and serve as an important customer facing ‘shop window’ to what the branch does to help local animals in need._ _In an effort to maximise our income generating potential, in 2024 we also introduced GiftAid to two of our shops (Rhos and Mostyn street) which is already helping us to increase our takings thanks to the extra 25% we get from every GiftAid pound we receive. Many thanks to Dawn, Mike and Carl for developing this essential process and a huge thanks to the volunteer teams that have bravely looked to incorporate it into their daily shop tasks._ _Looking towards the future, our key challenge remains attracting more volunteers to help us keep all of our shops open for as many days as possible. Towards that end, we have been actively promoting our volunteer vacancies to encourage our local communities to be part of our efforts to help local animals. I currently volunteer each Sunday in Llandudno and find both the shop work and the opportunity to speak to members of the public about our work and their animals really uplifting!_ ## **Branch Expansion** _We’re also excited to report that a lot of work has been taking place between RSPCA Aberconwy branch and the trustee team at Montgomeryshire & Radnor branch as we look at our branches working even closer together. We had identified some years ago that our capacity to respond to demand across all of our branches was becoming increasingly challenging across our respective branch areas and it was important to have some succession planning in place to ensure that welfare provision continued._ _Montgomeryshire & Radnorshire Branch Trustees have a wealth of welfare experience combined with their very successful farm dog and cat neutering schemes, so we’re excited to be working with them and what the future might bring. The combination of diverse areas of experience and expertise has been a learning curve for all of us!_ ## **Our Clinical Services** _The majority of our_ _income generation helps to sustain the increasing cost of veterinary support we provide animals through our clinics as well as the welfare and neutering vouchers we issue to help pet owners secure treatment for their animals._ ## **Llandudno Junction Welfare Clinic** _Our Clinic in Broad Street in Llandudno Junction is working well with the number of clinic sessions increasing. Before Covid we were able to open almost everyday of the week but the pandemic significantly impacted our capacity to do this safely. We’re now open 2 or 3 days a week (vet availability dependent) but hope we should stabilise at a minimum of 3 days a week moving forward._ _Like our shop volunteer teams, our Clinic Volunteers are absolutely essential to this service, managing clients, helping the vet and generally keeping the service running smoothly and creating a caring atmosphere to support people and their pets, so a huge note of thanks to them! The more days we can open, the more animals we can support, so please feel free to share our clinic details with anyone who may benefit from the service._ _Our plan has always been to maximise the potential of our clinical services and the opening of two further shops will hopefully generate funding that will make this possible. One element of this is developing the capacity to offer routine surgery such as neutering. To that end we are looking at securing grant funding to help us procure the necessary equipment which we hope will be realised in 2025. In doing so, we can_ 11 Registered Charity: 224340 **RSPCA ABERCONWY BRANCH** Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals _offer a complete service for our clients rather than having to refer them to private vets whenever surgery is required._ ## **North Wales Branches Mobile Clinic** _Our Branch has been operating the North Wales Branches Mobile Clinic for almost a decade. We personally dedicate two sessions a week in our Branch area with the remaining 6 sessions spread across the territories of RSPCA West Gwynedd, Wrexham and Ynys Mon Branches. The mobile clinic is an incredibly versatile platform that allows us to reach places where demand is greatest or barriers to support are highest as well as avoiding the need for long distance travel to clinics for the animals._ _Being able to target surgical support in our most struggling communities through the mobile clinic will have a dramatic impact on the animals that seek to help. However, surgical work can be more expensive so we plan to work with a variety of partner organisations to help us achieve this._ _In 2024 we also welcomed some new team members to the Mobile Clinic team in the form of Rhian Sinfield, Linizi Davies and Nigel Vincent. Covering everything from working with our clients, volunteer teams, accounts, fundraising and keeping the vehicle running are just a few areas where these team members have had a huge impact on the service. We’ve also been fortunate enough to welcome Beth Godley as a new addition to our vet team with both the Junction and Mobile Clinic. A major change was the creation of the North Wales Almoner service that ensures that our welfare and neutering vouchers are issued consistently across the whole region. Kelly Dilworth, our long time Clinic Supervisor, embraced the role in December and has brought to bear her significant clinical background and years of welfare experience to create a consistent and sustainable service providing support to clients as well as working with almost every vet across our region. We now have a welfare voucher system that works universally across the majority of North Wales from Anglesey and Gwynedd in the West, Wrexham in the East and nearly all of Mid Wales! Special thanks must go to the various trustees in RSPCA Ynys Mon Branch, West Gwynedd Branch, Aberconwy Branch and Montgomeryshire & Radnor Branch that made this collaboration possible._ ## **PPP (Paws, People Planet - Pawennau, Pobl, Planed) Food Bank scheme** _The PPP scheme continues to grow, now serving over 80 food banks across Wales and distributing over 1.5 million servings of food to struggling pet owners accessing food banks. This service has been essential to help avoid the damaging impact of pet owners having to relinquish their pets due to the cost of living but also helping us to reach new communities with our services._ ## **Our Future Plans** _As always, the Trustees have been looking at the future and how we as a branch improve our capacity to grow and sustain our services in the years to come. Every service costs money, so we have to balance our aspirations against sustainable fundraising plans every step of the way. Ultimately, we see the creation of our own animal welfare Centre or hub as central to this vision. It will take at least 10 years to realise, but will significantly increase our ability to help animals across our region whatever their needs, so please use our shops and donate where you can to help us bring this dream to fruition!_ _Project work is also underway aimed at wildlife provision; cat neutering; supporting those on low incomes during this cost of living crisis; education; working with local communities. These take time to develop and hopefully will increase the welfare provision and community activity across our region._ _This is just part of the work we (the Trustees, Volunteers and Staff) are looking at for 2025:_ - _The formalisation of a merger with Montgomeryshire & Radnor Branch expanding our branch area to include Wrexham to the East and Newtown in the South and almost everything in between!_ 13 Registered Charity: 224340 **RSPCA ABERCONWY BRANCH** Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - _The opening of a fourth shop in Wrexham, all with the aim of increasing animal welfare provision across the Easterly and Southerly regions of our branch area._ - _The commencement of surgical services across our clinical services._ - _The development of a Wildlife Response Network across North Wales._ - _Increased partnership working with neighbouring Branches and external organisations_ _Thank you to everyone who has donated; baked; knitted; staffed stalls; held tombola stands; hosted raffles and Volunteered in our shops and Clinics. Without the Volunteers and the Staff there would be no help to the animals we are passionate about._ _And finally a big Thank you to our Trustees who all take their role seriously and ensure that good governance is applied so that all monies raised are used for animal welfare provision._ ## **Reserves policy** _The Branch holds reserves in order that the service level provided for animal welfare is maintained should there be a reduction in incoming resources. Accounting policies** ## **1.1 Basis of preparation of accounts** - The financial statements are prepared under the historical cost convention with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014. The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102). ## **1.2 Tangible fixed assets for use by the branch and depreciation** - Tangible fixed assets for use by the branch are stated at cost less depreciation. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost or valuation of fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases: Shop & clinic fixtures and fittings 20% reducing balance method Depreciation is not provided on the freehold property, mobile clinic or the property improvements as in the opinion of the branch committee the present value of the buildings is not less than shown in the accounts. ## **1.3 Investments** Investments are stated at market value at the Balance Sheet date. The statement of financial activities includes the net gains and losses arising on revaluation and disposal throughout the year. ## **1.4 Income** Voluntary income and donations are accounted for as received by the branch. ## **1.5 VAT** Value Added Tax is recoverable by the branch on its clinic and shop operations and is reflected in the relevant income and costs in the statement of financial activities. ## **1.6 Fund raising costs** Fund raising expenditure comprises costs incurred in inviting people and organisations to contribute financially to the branches work.
