Trnstees
The Trustees and Holding Trust¢¢s who at any sla8e during tbe yearare shown on page l. m￿nber8
are grateful to all Trnstees for their interest and input to the working of ihe Society. Appointment of
TJ￿￿e¢S is governed by th¢ Trust I)¢¢d of th¢ Charity and the Society's eonstitution. The Board of
Trnst¢¢s is aulhorised ¢0 appoint new TTUStees to fill aoy cXi￿ltig vacancy or a vacancy ￿]sillg through
the resignation or death of an existing Trustee. At the 2025 AGM. held on 16 June, members present
voted to appoint the existing c(Immittee alld respective roles for a fith year. As of 30 Septem
2025. th¢ position of President reMaI￿ed vacant and there were no other resig])auons or appointments.
Investment Poivers
The T￿$t Deed and Constitution authorise TnLStees to make and hold investmthts using the gcllcrdl
nds of the charily not r¢quir¢d inlln¢diat¢ly for the ￿lfi]rnent of thc Charity's objectives. To date th¢
Socidy has a deposil with Darlington Buildillg SIKiety and the cwrent accounts continue to be with
Barclays as indicated in the account8. The v￿uC of the investments placed with the Barclay's and
Cazenove charity multi-asset funds have gained in value over th¢ year. agai￿ 08 specified in Ihe
accounts.
Constithtion Ob e¢t$ and Polici
The objects of the Nortballerton and the Dales Mencap S(Kiety. as outlined in tbe Trust Deed and in its
Constitutio￿ are to providc 5UPPOrt and facilities and to act as a voice for people with learning
disabilitics, their parellts and carers within the forn]er Hambleton and Richmondsbire areas of North
Yorkshire.
Trnstees are also aware that Ihe So¢i¢ly benefits from thc continucd support of those who give their
time voluntsrily to cover cleaning and some maintenance work. Other cardaking and administrative
duties. such as in relation to opening and closing and financial managemenL are also supported by
voluntary input.
Community use of the Centrc continues. as retthed last y¢aT. As well as users who have hired the
Centre for several years. additional organisations that use Ihe Celltre include the National Childbirth
Trust, the Nortballerton Women's Institute and the Log05 Church Group. AccordinEIy> income from
l¢ttings has increased this yeas.
Risk Mana ement
Th¢ Ttijstees have assessed the major risks to which the Clwity is exposed, in particular those r¢latcd
to the operations and fiDanccs of the cI￿lty and are satisfied that systems and prwedures are in place
to Jnitigate our exw)sure to the major risks.

Review of Develo ments and AehlevemeDts
The &xiety held its AGM on thc 16 June 2025 at the C¢ntrc. Once again, a general report was given
relating to the S(Kiety's progres8 and activities as w¢ll as outlining flnancial d¢tails. As stated
previously, the generous Equests received over severdl years have placcd the SIKi¢ty in a very secure
position fmaD¢ially. The decision taken by Trustees in 2023 that future membership would Ix free and
open to all wbo re￿1ve support from the Society or who are supportive of its work has Dot ￿USed any
issue8 of concern to date. Tb¢ security of contact details. Maintain￿ in litie with GDPR requirements.
has been reviewed. as has data security relating to inforniation held on the office computer. Steps have
bcen taken to improve PTacti¢e.
Ai iheir reguloJ committee meetings. Trnslees have continued to consider options for the development
and work of the Society. Again, the focus is on providing day-tim¢ adivities. the aim of which is to
help people with learning disabilities to liv¢ fuifdied lives. IcpJn and praclise life skillss parti¢iPatr and
so¢ialise. The Monday Club. Ihe Tuesday art classes, the Wedllcsday Drop-in. th¢ Goose¢Toft Picker8
and tbe Lun¢hables have all continued for anotheT year and are well attended and very much elljoy¢d
by parti¢ipants. Input to the Monday Club and Drop-iD have included speakers dealing with Issues
relating to community Safety, bealth and reGognising the dangers of scams and other forn]s of abuse.
Regular visits from th¢ 'Therapy Dogs, have also been enjoy¢d. Tr Pcrsonalised l£arning College
stsdents based at Northda]¢ Coniinue to do catering for the Drop-in al wbirh Joe McKeclmie, NoTth
Yorkshire CouDty tn¢lusion Sporls Officer, provides various SFM)rt a¢tivities every other W￿k. The in-
house biJ)go and karaoke s¢ssions. also includcd inth¢DTop-in programm¢. remain popular. The gBrden
projecl now in its S￿ond year. has bcen pr(Mluctive, particularly regarding onions, salad leaves.
tomatoes and wildflowers.
M¢mb¢rs who attend these activities are encouraged to acl as an Advisory Group and discuss issues
relating to Men¢ap and wh&t takes place at the G4x)secroft Cent￿. The comm¢nts and sugg¢stions of
thc Advisory Group are twort¢d to Trustees at their regular m¢¢tings.
Truslccs arc particularly grate￿1 to the Potting Shed in Northal1erto￿ the staff of which have adopted
Nortballerton Mencap as (hcir local charity. As well as ratsing funds. the staff of the Potting Sbed have
piovid¢d generous support and given our members opportunitlCS to visit their Pr￿￿1$¢$. Durtng these
visils they have, among other things, made pizzas and caDyed pumpkins.
As previously reported. MIS Sue Lear, in the role of Development Manager, continues generdl
oversight of thc Goosecroft Centre lo ensure th81 me&wres are 2D place to maintsin high standa￿S in
relation to health and safely and safeguarding. Suc is also very keen to promote the Society's
obje¢tives in support of p￿Trple with learning disabilities. their families and carers, lo include thc
provision of infornialton and a Iisming ear. As Tel￿rted last y￿, work in relation to hate cIim¢
awareness and ¢onmiunity 5afcty continue in liaison with th¢ police and the SaferHambleton Group.
Joelle Mitchell, appointed as Assistant Development Manager in Januory 2022, has Continued to make
a valuable ¢oDtsibution to the running of a¢tiYities bas￿al the Goosecroft CeDtre including the Monday
Club, the Drop-in and th¢ monthly Lunchables visits to local places to eat. bi addition, Joell¢ maintains
¢￿￿tIve lith through Faceb(knk and the Nortballerton Mencap website. H¢l¢n Orr supports the
activities that take place. as a paid assistant, and h¢r wntribvtion is very much appreciated. Trust¢¢s arc
also grateful to Ruth Hawkes for rnnning the highly sU¢¢eSsfi￿ Tuesday art sessions. IJTr MaT¢h 2025,

The links with locai organisations supporting people with learning disabilittes, such as Northdal¢ and
Chopsticks, continue. The Society maintains its link with Royal Mencap, Inclusion North and North
Yorkshire Council. Contributions are mRd¢ in response to specifically designated weeks relating lo
Learning Disabilities or s￿1￿2 campaigns, such &s the one highlighting the issue of Hat¢Crimes agaitist
people with disabilities.

healih prdctices IT] sUP￿rt of people wilh disabililie8. to include th¢ provision of reasonable
adjust]nenls, the flagging system and hcajth access. Feedback is passed on to specialist learning
disabilities staff at the South Tees Hospitals. The group also has links Hakan DuTma4 TTanSforn￿ti0o
Commissioning Manager. Humber and North Yorkshire NHS. HakaD has attended the ￿up and is
kc¢n to ￿C¢1Ve feedback on a range of issues trlating to health care.
As ststed in the last r￿01( the Society is w¢ll placed to continue its SUPFK)rt of people with Icarniog
disabilities, their farnilies and carers and would welcomc fi￿er suggcstions from members as to how
il migbi develop its services and role within the community to support people with le8Jlling disabilities
and those concerned with their welfare and care.
Communl , Bellcflt
tn l(M)king atthe overall aims and objectives of thc Society, Trustees hav¢haddu¢T¢g8rd to the guidance
published by thc Charity Cottllnission in ￿latiOn to public benefit. The Goosecroft Centre is 8 valuable
community resource, as outlined in tl)is and pr¢vious reports and Trustees are confident tbai thc benefit
to the community will continue.
Fknandal R￿leW and Reserves
tncome from donations and legacies has continued at & high level as ihe Soeiely has benefitted from
two further exceptional legacies totalling £155,270.
Income from letttngs has increased as there are th￿e additional organisations using the Centr¢.
Income from activities provided for the members coDtitiues to increase and coveTh the costs of those
activ&ti¢s.
The significant reserves of the Society have continued to allow the ￿ndIng of Ihe Development
Manager and assistants. also the increasing overheads for the C¢ntre.
During the year, funds of £150,000 have been tT8nsferred from the Building Society deposit to ihe
Investment Portfo]io. The overall value of the total portfolio was £650,767 as al the ryorting dale, after
thc rcinvestm¢nl of the £18.904 income generdted on those investments in the yw and the gaill on the
marf(et va]ue of £28.537.
There is a reduction in thc building soci¢ty inter¢sl proportional to the lower detK)sii level.
The overnll su4)lus for the year, including the investment gains. was £165.024 , leaving £1.410,625 on
the g¢n¢ra] fijnd available to fund the future activities of thc Socicty.
There ]]as been no activity on the restricted fimds during tbe ye4r.
As at 30th September 2025, the cash resaves were £304.385 on tILe General Fund and a further £2.939
on thc Restrictcd Funds.
