REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
The Trustees are pleased to present their report on the activities of the charity for the year ended
31 March 2023.
Objects
The will of Mr. B. K. Hufton established this fund lo be held on trust exclusively for the fuilherance
of such charitable purposes, charitable institutions or foundations in such proportions as the
Trustees shall, in their discretion, determine.
Activlties
The Trustees meet regularly lo review the performance of the investment portfolio, which is
maintained on an advisory basis, by Redmayne Bentley and lo consider any requests that may
have been received from various SoUr￿S for assistance or donations. The Trustees also monitor
the overhead expenses to ensure that they are kept to a minimum.
At 31 March 2023 the lolal assets of the charity stood at £4,194,730 which is an increase of £86,083
over the position at 31 March 20221£4.108,6471.
The charities principal source of income for this has been dividends and interest received of
£116,82012022 - £117,755). No other income was received.
The charity made donations amounting to £134,000 in the year12022 - £100,290).

Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities
The charity Trustees are responsible for preparing an annual report and financial statemen15 in
accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accounb"ng Praclicel.
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the charity Trustees to prepare
financial slalemenls for each year which give a true and fair view of the slate of affairs of the charity
and of the incoming resources and application of the charity for that period. In preparing the
financial stalemenls, the truolees are required to..
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consislenlly..
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP.,
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.,
slate whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material
departures and explained in the financial stalemenls.,
prepare the fi'nancial slalements on the going concern basis unless il is inappropriate lo
presume that the charity will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable
accuracy, at any lime, the financial position of the charity and lo enable them to ensuo that the
financial statemènts comply with the Charities Act 2011 and the provisions of the trust deed. They
are also responsible for safeguarding the assets ol the charity and hence taking reasonable steps
for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

BARNARD KENNETH HUFTON CHARITY
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2023, which are sel out on pages
4and5.
Respecb've responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible lor the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees
consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144121 ol the Charities Act 2011
(the 2011 Acll and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility lo
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act.,
to follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by Charity Commission
under section 14515llbl of the 2011 Act., and
lo stale whether particular matters have come lo my attention.
Basis of independent examinerfs report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity
Commission. An examination includes a review of the aceounling records kept by the charity and
a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. 11 also includes Consideration of any
unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees
concerning any such mallers. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that
would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as lo whether the accounts
present a 'lrue and fair view, and the report is limited lo those matters sel out in the statement
below.
Independent examiner's slalement
In connection with my examination, no maller has come to my attention
11} which gives me reasonable cause to believe that iii any material respect the requirements
to keep accounting records in accordanTr with section 130 of the 2011 Act.. and

accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of accounting
The financial slalemenls have been prepared under the hislorieal cost convention and in
accordance with the Slalemenl of recommended Practice.. Accounting and reporting by
charities ISORP 20051 issued in March 2005 and applicable UK Accounting Standards and
the charib'es Act 2011.
Incoming resources
Dividend Income is accounted for when received. Interest receivable is included when
earned.
Donations from other charitsble trusts are accounted for when received.
Resources expended
Grants for charitable purposes are accounted for when appioved and paid by the Trustees.
Governance costs
Governance costs comprise all costs involving the public accountability of the charity and
ils compliance with regulation and good practice. These costs include c051s related to
professional fees together with overhead and support costs.
Gains and losses on investments
All gains and losses are accounted for as they arise.

During the year the charity made thirty six grants lo a wide range of organisations, the
largest donations were £90,000 to Bedslone College Foundation. In 2022 the largest
donations were £30,000 and £30,160 to Bedslone College Foundation.
