Chairman's Report for New Hutton Institute January 2023 for the year 2022. This year has been another successful year regarding the institute. There have been some setbacks but generally a good year. Financially we are reasonably secure but as we all know our costs will be increased this year due to a variety of factors not least our energy expenses. However, we have a lot of support from the community and hopefully this will continue with our future planned events in 2023. Positives for this year are that we have a new sound system and big screen which will hopefully be an asset to the space. Decoration has been completed internally and externally with new furniture and furnishings. This has attracted alot of positive support not only from the immediate locality but also the wider community. These improvements would not have taken place had it not been for various committee members working behind the scenes requesting quotes and overseeing the work. It was not easy at the beginning of the year to organise events due to Covid and the on going renovation. We held a quiz night which was very popular and successful. The jubilee was a non starter for the institute as Old Hutton were running an event and it we thought it was unfair to compete. Ashes Caravan Park also kindly hosted an event and invited the village so there was enough happening locally. When all the painting etc. was completed we held a free event to thank the community and celebrate the lifting of covid restrictions. This was held to bring the community back together and showcase the space. This was hugely successful with over 100 people attending and enjoying hog roast, puddings and a live band. This created enthusiasm and support for future events. A brilliant hallowe'en event was well organised by the childrens committee and it was fantastic to see the brilliant outfits and decorations. Hard work l am sure but well worth the effort. Hutton hub has had a shaky start although a pub games night took place and proved popular so perhaps that is the way forward. Kath has been running coffee, cake and chat on Thursday which has not been well supported but enjoyed by those that have attended. However, this has ticked a box for the grants which were approved. Barbara organised a creative chocolate evening and a series of create your own Christmas floral arrangements which was enjoyed by everyone. A photographic competition has been put in place and Tony Ellis has undertaken to coordinate this task. We are hoping to find some brilliant photographs taken in the

locality to put up on the walls. We are hoping to organise a night to decide which should be displayed. Unfortunately the curry night had to be cancelled last week as the curry chef has not been well for a few weeks but we have in the pipeline a band night and domino night in February. A black tielsuit night in April and various publgames nights etc. Finally l just want to say welcome to our new committee members and a huge thank you to lan Mason who is resigning after many years. He has been a real asset and his input will definitely be missed. Also thank you all, especially David, Brian and Barbara for your efforts throughout the year and hopefully 2023 will be a good one.
