The trustees have adopted the provisions of A¢￿UntIng and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard appliCat￿e in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 1021 (effective 1 January 2019). Grantmaking The charity's grant making poltcy allows the trustees lo make grants, al Ihelr dIsC￿lI0n, to individuals resident in S12idburn in need of financial assistsnce lo promote education or relief of financial hardship. This ties in with the eharilable objectives which are specifically lo make such grants as described above. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE Charitable actlvltles The trustees have continued to invest in their land and buildings to ensure they are maintained in good condition. They operate their work units for the twin benefits of providing lo¢al employment and producing income for the tnjst. Support to tha people in the community whom they consider to be needy as well as supports'ng local organisations for Community andlor education purposes has continued in the year tolalling £17,969. This includes the granting of £12.575 to local ￿Sidents with less financial means in order to assist them during the Easlei and Christmas Periods, £500 to the Slaidburn Archive to assist with ongoing costs, and £100 10 the Slaidburn Steam Rally to assist with the annual costs of holding the event. £4.794 was granted lo Si Brennands Endowed School for the purchase of computer equipment for ¥Ghool children and staff. The maintenance of the work units and local grant making is in line with the charitsble objectives in assisting local people and the aforementioned institutions in being available lo the public and society as a whole. Thls along with other investment income of £12,452 and countryside stewardship of £44 provided total investment Income of £38,115. In accordance with the charitable objectives, £17,969 of grants have been made. The costs of generating the ￿ntaI income were £7,628, and governance and support costs lolalled £2,973. A bad debt of £1,306 that was written off in the previous year, for an unpaid loan lo a Slaidburn resident. was unexpectedly repaid and therefore the bad debt expense was reversed thi$ year. Surpluses generated are held in reserves for future expenditure or grant making and deficits are offset against brought forward reserves. Reservès policy The Iruslees have reviewed the reserves of the charity. Their policy is to trold sufficient funds to meet al least iwelve months operating costs as well as to accumulate reserves for future expenditure on local facilities in arcordance with the aims and objectives of the charity- Total fvnds of £897,179 are hdd at the year end, which includes £625,172 fixed assets. £247.805 of the fixed asse15 are restricted funds. Of the remaining £272,007 net current assets, funds of £201.868 are designated towards a future project lo develop accommodation for the eldedy in the Slaidburn area. This leaves £70,139 unrestricted and undesignaled reserves. which are held in accordance with the reserves policy above. Golng concarn The Iruslees use the going concern basis of accounting in the p￿ParatIOn on the financial statements and there is no discernible doubt about the charity being able lo operate on a going concern basis of at least twelve months from the date when the financial statements are aulhorised. FUTURE PLANS Designated funds of £201,868 are being held for a futu￿ project. in which lo develop accommodation for the eldedy in the Slaidburn area. There is currently no lime frame on starting or complellng this plan bul the funds are being held for a lime that an opportunity lo pul il into action becomes feasIl￿e. The trustees will continue to provide facilities and finar￿101 assistance for the community of Slaidburn. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document The charity is controlled by its governing document, a scheme dated 29 November 2011 and conslitules an unincorporated charity. Rocruitrnent and appolntment of now trustees By this scheme a body of nine trustees is constiluled. of whom four are lo be nominated and five co-opted- each appointment musl be for a term of four years. Organisational structure The trustees meet 4-5 times a year lo discuss matters arising and plan future activities and expenditure. They are assisted by an administrator. who is provided by Slaidburn Village Hall. Al decisions are taken by the Iruslees. The financial statements have been prepared under the histor￿1 cost convention. Income All income is recognised in the Stslemenl of Financial Aclivilies.
