The Royal Numismatic Society was founded in 1836 under the name of The Numismaltc Society of tAJndoll, rccciving
Royal Charter in 1904 (no. RCIXKJ509), since whcn it has bccn called The Royal Numismali¢ Society. It is ¥overned
by its Bylaws. It is a registered charily {no. 221850). Thc S(Kicty is cstablished for ihe purpose of encouraging Ihe study
of the coinage of all ¢ounlries and ils hisiory.

Following the AGM al the Junc ordinary meeting. Andrew Burnett retired as Honorary Vice Presidcnl, and Rogcr Bland
was elected as Honorary Vice Presidcnt from October. Shailendra Bhandare relired as an ordinary member of Council
in June, and Robert Bracey was elected as an ordinary member ofcouncil from Ikiob¢r.
The regislercd address of the charity is clo Dept. of Coins and Medals, British Museum, tATrndon WC I B 3DG. The
Society's activitics are governed by its Charter and By¢laws, and Regulation5. Thc Society'5 Bye-Laws were lasl
r¢vis¢d in 2019.
The Society publishes Tlie Niiniismalic Chroiiicle cach year. which is distribuied free lo Fellows. Copies arc a150
availablc for sale lo the gieneral public and Spink & Son Limilcd di51ribule them and Special Publicalions on behalf of
the Socicty. A digilal newsl¢tier is publishd eighi timcs a ycar bcforc each meeting. Fellows also re¢eive the Money &
Medals Newsleiigr by email.

The Society holds a substantial Library, jointly wilh ihe British Numismati¢ Society, hous¢d al The Warburg Insliluie in
Woburn Square. London. Under ihe iemis of an agrecmcnt signed in 2019 the Inanagemenl of the Library is in the hands
of Ihc Warburg Institute while ihe iwo socieiies retain ownership of the books. The Warburg Insiitule's mulii-year
refurbishment has been completed and Ihe Library is now located in the basement of the Institut¢. The Library is open lo
mcinbL'rs on Monday lo Saturdays. excepi public holidays.
In 2024 the Society administered thirteen Granl and Prize fund5-, using money donated lo ihe S(￿letY for specific
purposcs. Prom these tunds, grdnls and prizes ioiallinby £17,390 were awarded io individuals and organisalions. Seven
funds {IAJwick, Archibald. Price, Kreitman, CNG, Casey and Barrdi) ¥ave grdnls.. the Marshall Fund supported
eduLali()nal Purposes: the Linecar Fund supported Èhe Brilish AssoL'iation of Numismalic Societies ¢onf¢ren¢e,' and
Parkes Weber, l.hotka. Gilljam and Sliamma Funds gave prizes. The SoL'ieiy is a member of ihe Inlernaiional
Numisinalic C"ommission.
The lrnslces consider Ihftl Ihe Society's various aclivities further ils purposes for the public benefit. They have had
regard lo the Charily Cuminission's guidan￿ on publi¢ benefii.
Decisions re&)ardingy rhe distribulion of Grdnts. either from Ihc s￿le¢y.$ General Funds, or from ihe Desigyiialed or

Thc Socicly is fin&inced by an annual subscripiion payablc by both private and instilulional fellows, with a reduced
subsLription for lull-time sludents, lo¥eih¢r with income from invcstmenls. The full annual Sub￿riptIOn is £45 and the
sludLnl ralc £20. The officers of lh¢ Society offer Iheir services on a voluniary basis. althou&>h a paid adminislralor docs
work for the Society for nornially one day per week. In this way. governance costs are kept to a minimum.

Direct funding of scholarly activity cornprises, granis. prizes. meeiings. chronicle and publication expenses. This

Tlie H.W.A. Line¢ar Bequest of £5,(K)O was received in 1987 and Council has madc thc income availablc to
subsidise the attendan¢¢ of young, people at the Inlemalional Numismaiic Congiress and the congTresscs and
lecture courses org>anised by ihe Briiish Associaiion ofNumismaiic Socieiics and 10 pay for an annual Liiiecar
Memorial Lecturer at one of these B.A.N.S. events.
The Frizzell Fund was established in 1992 wilh a Iwuesl received under ihe will of the late Helen Frizzell and
Council decided that the income should be used once a year to pay the eX￿nSeS of a visiiing speaker, nom)ally
froin abroad. This was subsequently extended lo include usin¥ ihe income io help meel Ihe Iravellinby and other
expcnses of all lecturers, wh¢r¢ appropriate. as well as the annual medallisl.
The Special Publication5 Fund was originally establish￿ io present a separate record of th¢ financial results of
the S(Icie(y s Special Publicalions Series and to relain ihe surplus funds d¢signaled as primarily available lo
meet thL initial costs of publishing fuiure volum¢s. I publication was madc in 2023.
The Malcolm Lyne Fund of£222,654 was established in 2024. These monies. designaled from the l¢¥acy of
Malcoliii l.yiie, are 10 be used io fund projecls related lo his inleresls. grdnts and an annual pri7.e.

The l.hotka Memorial Prizc was endoH'ed in 1961 in memory of Dr J.F. Lhotka and is awarded annually lo Ihe
author adjud&?cd to havc published in tlie pr¢vious two calendar ycars ihc book or article in English most helpful
to the elemenlary sludent of numismalics. Tl]e value ofthe pri2¢ is currently not Icss than £250.
The Gilljam Prize for Third Century Numi5malics was established in 1985 and is awarded bi-annually for the
book or article published in the previous thTe¢ ycar5 which rcpresenls the best conlributiot] lo ihe numismalics
