The Trustees have pleasure in presenting their report and the financial statements for the charity for the year ended 31
Maich 2024. The Trustees have adopted the proM5ions of Accounting and Reporting by Charitie5." Statetnent of

applicable in the UK and the Republic ol I￿land IFRS 1021 (effective 1 January 20191.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Th& charity's objects are..
1. To provide social, recreational, cultural and other amenities piimarily for persons living on the Nevill, Downs and Wallands
Estates of Lewes, but also for any other person irrespgctive of wlour. creed. politic81 views and other bias.
2. To provide facilities for thg running of 8 Pl8ygroup in 8¢oordance with the aims of the Pre Schools Playgroups
Constitution.
The tNstees have considered the Charity Commision's guidance on public benefit, including the guidance 'public benefit:

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Slgnlflcant events
The attached accounts detail the financial position of the Charity. The result for the year shows a deficit of £3,38112023
surplus £1,976). The trustees are grateful for the generosity of grant funders who have allowed the charity to (x)ntinue.
The trustees consider the financial position as at 31 March 2024 to be satisfactory.
R•serves
At th8 y8ar end the ChartLy had fr88 r8S8rv85 of £77,758, considerably tnore than is d8ern8d n8C85sary. Th8 Trust8es hav8
decided to retain these reserves given there is uncertainly over the kase of the current building.
Golng concern
The Trustees consider that the Charity is a going concern.
The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the Charity is exposed. These risks are identffied in the areas of
financ8 and th8 operating ass8ts of th8 Centr8. The Trustees are sati5fi8d that the syst8tns and procedur85 in place will
enable the efficient rnanagement of those risks. The Trustees have a policy to review these risks annually.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The unincorporated charity is govemed by its constitution and rule book.
Rècruitment and appointsnent of trustees
The rules of the ch8rity st8te that there shall be a minimum of 3 and a Maximum of 5 appointed Trustees. In the case of a
Trustee ceasing lo act as such lor any reason, the remaining Trustees may appoint another Trustee to take their place. New
trust88s ar8 advis8d of th8ir responsibilth'8s as Truste8s on appointment.
The Trustees report that in accordance with the rule book, they have endeavored to comply with the aims and objects of the
charity.

Basis of accounting
The financial staternents have been prepared under the historical cost convention, except for investrnents which are
included at market value and the revaluation ol certain fixed assets and in accordance with the Charities SORP IFRS
1021 'Accounting and Reporting by Charitie5'. Statement of Recommended Practi￿ applicable to charities preparing their
accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard 8ppIic8ble in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021
leffeclive 1 January 20191,. Financial Reporting Standard 102 the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021, and the Charities Act 2011.

The finantsal statements are prepared, on a going concem basis, under the historical cost convention.
Funds
The charity tnaintains a general unrestricted fund which represent5 funds which are expendable at the discretion of the
truste85 in furtherance of th& objects of the charity. Such funds may be held in order to finance both working capital and
capital investment.
Designated funds comprise ol unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the Trustees for particular purposes.
Restricted funds have been provided to the charity for particular purposes. and it is Ihe policy of the board of tNstees to
ca￿fullY monitor the application of those funds in accordanTr wth the restrictions pla￿d upon them.
There is no formal policy of transfer between funds or on the allocation of funds to designated funds, other than that
deseribed above

All in¢oming resour￿$ are included in the statement of financial activities when the Charity is entitled to the income and
the amount can be quantified with ￿asonable accuracy.

Liabilities are recognised as resources expended when there is a legal or constructive obligation cornrnitting the Charity
to the expenditure.
Taxatlon
As a registered charity, the company is exempt from income and corporation tax lo the extent that its income and gains
are applicable to charitable purposes only. Value Added Tax is nol recoverable by the cornpany, and is therefore
included in the relevant Costs in the Staternent of Financial A¢tivities.

Tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land. are stated at cost or valuation less depreciation and any provision for
impairment. Depreciation is prowded al rates calculated to write off the cost or valuation of fixed assets, less their
