## **The People’s Palace** Charity Number: 220814 Trustees’ Annual Report for the Year Ending 31 December 2025 ## **1. Charity’s Objects** The People’s Palace is established as: “A CENTRE PRIMARILY FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE TEMPERANCE CAUSE AS A PLACE WHERE THE INHABITANTS OF TRURO AND OTHERS VISITING THE CITY MAY FIND ENTERTAINMENT AND ACCOMMODATION WITHOUT THE NECESSITY OF RESORTING TO A HOUSE LICENCED FOR THE SALE OF INTOXICATING LIQUOR.” The charity continues to pursue this objective by providing accessible, alcohol-free opportunities for sport, recreation, social interaction and community support. ## **2. Public Benefit** The main focus of The People’s Palace is to provide accessible, alcohol-free sports and recreational facilities for the local community. During 2025, the charity continued to provide opportunities for people to participate in table tennis, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and snooker, as well as providing facilities for community support activities. The charity also continued to make its facilities available to Man Down, a men's mental health support group. These activities provide opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, community participation and improved wellbeing in an alcohol-free environment. ## **3. Structure, Governance and Management** The People’s Palace is constituted as a Trust. Trustees are appointed by the existing trustees in accordance with the charity’s governing document. The trustees during the year were: - Richard Buckland - Simon Gordon Ward - Brian John Pascoe The trustees are responsible for overseeing the charity’s activities, financial affairs, buildings and facilities, and ensuring that the charity operates in accordance with its charitable objectives and governing document. ## **4. Main Activities and Achievements During 2025** During 2025, The People’s Palace continued to develop its facilities and increase participation in its sporting and community activities. ## **Membership** Membership continued to grow, with approximately 80 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu members, 30 table tennis members and 2 snooker members. ## **Table Tennis** The People’s Palace entered four teams into the West Cornwall Table Tennis League during 2025. Regular practice sessions continued to take place on Mondays and Thursdays and remained well attended. The charity also continued to maintain its membership and compliance with Table Tennis England requirements. ## **Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu** Resolute BJJ continued to rent the charity’s barn facility during 2025, with approximately 80 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu members using the facility. ## **Snooker and Community Facilities** Work commenced on the major renovation of a previously unused Snooker backroom. The intention is to improve the facility so that it can be used by Man Down, which continues to use facilities at The People’s Palace to provide support and social opportunities for men. The renovation is expected to cost approximately £10,000 in total when completed in 2026. The trustees consider this investment to be an important improvement to the charity’s facilities and its ability to support community activities. ## **5. Safeguarding** The charity continued to focus on maintaining appropriate safeguarding standards during 2025. Safeguarding training was completed by the charity’s Safeguarding Officer and Treasurer during the year. DBS checks were completed for four volunteers, strengthening the charity’s safeguarding arrangements. The trustees will continue to review and maintain safeguarding arrangements as the charity develops its activities, particularly with the aim of increasing junior participation. ## **6. Financial Review** For the year ending 31 December 2025: - Total income: £30,560.66 - Total expenditure: £32,124.69 - Net deficit: £1,564.03 The deficit for the year was relatively modest and the charity remains in a strong overall financial position. The trustees continued to invest in the charity’s facilities and community activities while maintaining sufficient funds to support its ongoing operations and future development. ## **7. The trustees will continue to monitor the level of reserves against the charity’s ongoing commitments and planned investment in its facilities. ## **8. Plans for 2026** The trustees’ priorities for 2026 include: - Continuing to maintain and increase overall membership. - Increasing the number of junior members. - Continuing to support and develop table tennis activities and maintain compliance with Table Tennis England requirements. - Continuing to develop snooker as an activity at The People’s Palace. - Completing the renovation of the previously unused Snooker backroom, with the total project expected to cost approximately £10,000. - Continuing to provide facilities for Man Down and other appropriate community activities. - Maintaining appropriate safeguarding arrangements, including training and DBS checks where required. - Continuing to make effective use of the charity’s premises and facilities for the benefit of the local community. ## **9. Acknowledgements** The trustees would like to thank all members, volunteers and partner organisations for their continued support during 2025. Particular thanks are given to those who contribute their time to maintaining the charity’s sporting activities, safeguarding arrangements and community facilities.
