“A  centre  primarily  for  the  promotion  of  the  temperance  cause  as  a  place  where  the inhabitants of Truro and others visiting the city may find entertainment and accommodation without the necessity of resorting to a house licensed for the sale of intoxicating liquor.” 

## **2. Public Benefit Statement** 

The charity provides **accessible, alcohol-free sports and recreational facilities** for the local community. Its activities promote health, wellbeing, social inclusion, and mental health support, offering safe and welcoming spaces for people of all ages.

During 2024, the trustees were: - Richard Buckland - Simon Gordon Ward - Brian John Pascoe

## **4. Main Activities and Achievements in 2024** 

During 2024, The People’s Palace continued to promote its charitable objectives through sports, recreation, and community support: 

- **Membership growth:** Approximately 100 members. 

- **Sports activities:** 

- 25 paid members regularly played table tennis, with four teams entered in the **West Cornwall Table Tennis League** . 

- 75 members participated in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu via the barn rental to **Resolute BJJ** . 

- Snooker was available as an additional recreational activity. 

- Table tennis practice sessions on Mondays and Thursdays attracted over ten players each session.

- **Community mental health support:** Facilities provided for **Man Down** , a men’s mental health support group. 

- **Barn renovation:** £18,939.10 spent to refurbish the barn, now rented at £650/month, creating a sustainable income stream and expanding community engagement. 

## **5. Financial Review** 

**Income and Expenditure** - Total income: £27,880.88 - Total expenditure: £45,255.89 - Deficit reflects strategic investment in the barn refurbishment to support long-term sustainability. 

**Reserves at 31 December 2024:** £186,094.73 - Barclays Community Account: £7,849.02 - Barclays Premium Business Account: £10,664.38 - Investment Account 1: £155,548.42 - Investment Account 2: £12,032.91 

The reserves provide long-term stability and capacity to support ongoing and future community initiatives. 

## **6. Plans for 2025** 

The trustees plan to: - Increase membership across table tennis, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and snooker activities. - Continue providing facilities for community groups such as **Man Down** , promoting mental health and wellbeing. - Ensure that all activities meet **safeguarding standards set out by Table Tennis England** , maintaining a safe and inclusive environment. - Improve facilities, including the **renovation of the Snooker backroom** , enhancing accessibility and quality of spaces for members and community groups.
