STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The College was established by Trust Deed dated 15 March 1962. supplemented by a Deed of
Variation of Trust date(127 November 1968 and with further vaiiations to the D88d of Tru51 in
20118nd 2018.

The College is managed by the Trustees of the Charity. sitting as an Executive ConThittee. The
Executive can also vote rm to the Commlttee other Members as they see fft. All other rnernbers
of the Executive except the Treasurer are Trustees.
Organlsatlon
The Executive Commtttee met wularly in 2024. by Zoom on most occasions with the Director of
Training. The members of the Committ88 are. if n8￿Ssary. rx)nsulted by email on major issuas.
Within the policy set by the Executive C(¥nmittee the fesponsibility for the day-t￿daY Irainlr
adivities is delegatgj to the Director of Trainiry. The administration of the College continues to
be handled by the Trustees topther *ith the Treasurer as a ccpopted membèr.
Members of the Executive Ccrfnmittee are a strategic body wilh indriiduals taking responsibility
for specific proiecls and rewKbng bad( to the Comm￿ee.
We are thankful for the services of our DiTBctrY of Training who contlnues to contribute
significantly to the work of the College.

Since January 2018 Hymns Ancient and Mcéem have pU1￿lshed Yh8 Preacherf magaine,
paying a commission to the College to do so.
Risk Management
The Trustees ￿gUlartY review the risks that the College might face. which nom)ally ￿late to the
level of membership and th8 finances of the College. They o)nsider Ih8t arrangements have
been set up to miligale such risks as have been idenb'fied. No major risks have been identified at
this stage and the review of risks is now an (￿￿¥ng task in accordance with the advice of Ihe
Ch8rity Commission.

The primary object of the College is the 8o%tancement and promotion of religion generally and In
particular by the prowsion of religious educakn'on and training. The College is ecumenical and
covers all Christian denominations. Subskliary purposes contsined In the original Trust Deed
include". the estsilishment and maintenance of a college to assist those who are engaged in
proaching and leachiro the word of Gcxd". and the organisation of cours8s of lectur88 and the
provision of Individual tuition to those engaged in preachin9.

Publlc Beneflt
The Trustees have had regard to the guidanc8 issued by the Charity Commission on public
benefit. They consider that the Cdlege is of wblic benefit by, inter alia. encourdging th
proclamation of the Christs'an religion., encouraging ecumenical ccN)peration between dlfferent
strands of Christianity" and prowding unrestricted education in skills and methods of public
speaking.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
The financial results for the year were again satisfactory. resulting in an operattng surplus for the
year of £1,157 {2023 £2,615). which was increa*J. by the inc¥ease in the valu8 of inveslments,
to £2,71512023 £8,466).
In 2024 the G(Alege's ino)ming re￿urCeS were £22,564 slighly down on 2023 of £23,115. Wlth
exp8ndilure of £21,407,12023 £20,500) this to the modest op&rdting surplus of £1,157 {2023
£2.615). However, £2.758 has been pald as a nonthndable deposit for the 2025 ts)nferenrA.
Commission from subscriptsons to the Preacher magain8 c£)ntinu6s to be the main source of
income at £13.814 (2023 £14.370) although this was bwer due to one off investment in the
webslte. Subscriplbns for 2024 were some 1074 {2023'. 1016).
The value of the investments at the year-end vms £69.596 (2023.. £68,038). This logelher with
the modest surplus has resulted in a balan￿ of funds carried forwar(1 at the end of the year of
£106,145 (2023 £103.4301.

from the details in the accounts, whilst more than this is held at present, the Trustees consider

for every Sunday or red-letter day in the quarter in quèstion - a practical resource to refer to
every week. It also contains book remews.. news of training opportunities from the College and
Festivals of Preaching; and feature artides - whith focus on a dÉfferent th8mè for each edition.
The four themes featu￿￿ in 2024 were 'Leaming preaching.. 'Preachlng 88 8 performance,.
'Novels and preaching, and 'Eschatdogy'. Future themes in the planning stages include 'The
EpSstles', 'Reachlng Generdtlon Z. 'Raaal }ust6ce' and 'Preathing stsrs {leaming from Ihe past)..
Subscripllons the joumal have o)ntinued to i￿aSe steadily. reaching approxrnately 1.100
by the end of the year.
Responslbility for putting the Joumal and its ac£s)mpanying website tCwJether rested thls year with
Heather Smlth of Hymns Anclent and Mctyjem I'Hymns'} - the Managing Editor - and Emily
Noyce, also from Hymns, the Marketing Executive. On the College side they were jolned by Matt
Allen, Reviews and Rosources Edilor. Ouncan Macpherson. Features Editor; and Graham
Pearcey. Rob Esdaile and Catherine Williams. Commis9(￿Ing Editors for sermons from
Nonconfomist. Roman Catholic and AnglI￿n preachers. Last but not least the role of Editor
transitioned seamlessly dunng the course of 2024 from Christopher Burkett, who'd c8rried out
this role for an amaang eleven years. to Jo Logan. the Direcfrff of Reader Tralning at St Hild
College, Mirfield.
The Editorial Board are partbcularty proud not on4y of their ovm e(wmenical makeup but also of
the diversty of authors who submitted artides. rewew5 and serynorB - vthich this year induded

This report is made solely to the Chanty's Trustees. as a body, in accordance with
Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011. My examination has been undertaken so that I
might state to the Trustees those matters l am required to state to them in an
Independent Examinerfs Report and for no other purpose.

As the members of The College of Preachers, you are responsible for the preparatlon
of the accounts, and you consider that an audit is not required for this year under
Section 144 (2) of the charit￿ Act 2011 and that an independent examination 18
required.
It is my responsibilty to..
examine the accounts under sectTron 145 of the 2011 Act;
2. to follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity
Commission under section 14515) (bl of the 2011 Act.. and
3. to state whether particular matters have come to my attention of a material
nature.
Basls of independ￿rt examlnerfs report
My examination was carried OLrt in accordance blith the General Directions given by
the Charity CommissFoners under S145(5) (b) of the Act. That examination includes
rewew of the accounting records kept by the Charrty and a comparison of the accounts
with those records. It also includes considering any unusual items or disclosures in the
accounts and seeking explanations from you as Trustees conceming any such
matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be
required in an aLKIrt and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the vTr8w
given by the accounts.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(a) which gives me reasonable cau8e to believe that in any material respect the
requirements..
1. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 130 of the 2011 Act.

the accounting requirements of the 2011 Ad., have not been met., or
(bl to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper
understanding of the accounts to be reached.
