The trustees present their report and finanoal statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2024. The financial
statements have been prepared in accordance wr¢h the accounting policies sei out in note 110 the accounis and comply wlth
the charity's trust deed. applicable law and United Kingilom Accounting Stand3rd5. The chafity is a public benefit entity.
Objedpie5 and artivitie5 forthe putslic benefft
The charity'5 purpose is to T3i5e voluntary funds to provide extra equipment amenities and services for the pattents and staff at
the Eastbourne Distr¢ct General Hospitsl (the Hospttèll under the control of East Sussex Hospitals Trust and its associated
community 5ervice5 provided centrallyby ESHT. The charity addit£onall¥aln￿ toen(DurJgethe iFbteie5t and 5UPPOrtof the public
forthe staff, patients and the work of the Trust.
The trustee5 are aware thatthere is gvidance issued by the Charity Commission on Public Benefit. The trustees willingly accept,
and confim their regard for. this ￿spOnsibl1jty'. the Hospitsl sèrvÈ5 the population of Eastbourne and a substantial part of the
surrounding county of East Sussex. Every patient. visitor and member of staff has the potential to benefit from the services and
equipment provided bythe charity. Therpfore, everyonewho lives in the substantial ￿tChmeNt area of the Ho5Pltal may benefft
irtcluding the many thousands of annual visitors to the area.
The charity raises ttsfunds throueh a numberof sourtes Intludinelegaties. donations and directthndralslngactivitles throughout
the year. In addition. the charity is deieirnined to continue lo prO￿￿e a service io the Hospital, its patierts, staff and visitors. It

A trolley 5eMce around waTds forthe convenience of staff and of patients who are unable to ¥iStt the other shops.

A small calé within the radiotherapy department of the Hospital.
The two shops and the cafe are under the management of3 salaried m3n38eress assistÈd by part-timè deputies. The shops. the
trolley service and the café are otherwise wholty stsffed byvolunteer5 With all surp5uses generated bythe5e actTWties being used
to further the objectNes of the charity.
For the purpose of carrying out the above objectives but not fvrther or other￿Se, the charity sh￿1 have the following powers:

expenditure has been recommended by ESFtr and has been appro¥ed bythe Executr¥e Committee.

To a large extent the SUC￿SS o* the charity in anyyear is dèpendent upon the level of legaciès and donations recelved in the
year, neither of which are under the control of. or can be forecast by. the trustees. Separate from those sources, the trijstees
consider al the level of shop and café sales together wth the gr05s profit zthieved and bl the intome from fundraising
activities to be measures of successful actNity in anyyear.

Voltsnteers 3rè essential to the success of the charity. In the shops. trolley service and at fi1ndrai￿ngevents. it is estimated that
they give an amazing 19,150 man hou￿ of voluntary seNlce per year. Volunteers asslst wlth every actNity undertaken by the
charity, be that 3 small coffee mornin& a sponsored event or a major function suth as a fete or bèll. It is impossible to accu￿te1V
quantify these hours or the finanoal walue involved but their wnt¥ibutson to the succe55 of the charity is both invaluable and
very much appreciated.
AchÉe¥ernents and perfomiancè
Whenever appropriate. the charity requests ESHT to identty major projects that il would like the cha￿ty to con51der as their
major objectNe forthefuture period. These projects, having been agreed with the tftJstÈes, ère presented totheAnnuèl General
Meetin8. The special projert for 2023124 has been to a5SiSt theTrust by purchase of a gamma c3mera for the better detection,
diagnosis arld treatrTrent of canor in the svm of £498.5CKJ.

In reviewing the results for the year, the trustees are pleased to note a subsLintlal Increase In the level of Shop sales and an
improvement in the gross profft percentsge achieved tn the year.
Flnanclal revlew
For the year ended 31 August 2024. there was a decrease in the levd ol ￿restricted donations but a good inuease in the
pro¢eed5 from fundraising artr¥ittes, shop trading and other income. An eX￿ptiOnal?nd substantial amount was received by
way of legzcies In the year. resultlng In toial Income from all sour￿, after dlrect expenses. of £2.258.039 as agalnst a flgure of
£786,670 in the previous year.
By nature. the amounts 3v3ilable forgrant and the perfoTfftafice of the thartty are largely dependenton the receipt of voluntary
fund5 and for this rea50n, objertives cannot be set wrth any accuracy. However. as fvnds became available, significant Srants
were tr￿de t)ver and above the major project. Due to a delay in building worl the monies held from our major project13st year
have still not been reqtjested by ESHT but are of COUEse ring-fenced and hekl Tr*ffihin the funds ol the charlty. The fvnds relatlng
to thi5 yearfs 5pedal project for the gamma carr*ra also await a request for payment from ESHT. The 8rants made to ESHT in
the year totslled C260.951 and further grants of £18.147 were m3de for the stsff and foi equipmerTrt in the Hospitsl. These
included significart a55iStance to the radiology and ￿pIratory rnedicine departments of the HospFtal.
The trustees are satisfied with the fin8ftcial posltion of the charity atthe end ofthe year. A total of £943,910 is held awaitlnB
draw-down by ESHT respert of designated bid5 includin& as mentioned above. the £4(KJ,000 relating to the speoBI project
for last year and the £450.000 relatinÉ tts this yearfs 5peoal projecl for the 8amma camera. There are funds available lor future
grants of £1,265,410 although the tTU5tee5 consider tt irnportant to note that this fiBure includes substantial legacies where
probate has been granted but which will not be consbdered available for gtsnt until the funds are actualty receNed.

charity will continueto be met in the future. There are no material uncertainties about the charyty's abiltyto continue. Whilst
proceedlng towards financing of major projert5 for the forthcomirE year. tt is anticipated that other grants will continue to be
made on a conservatiye basis as funds become available.
Invesbnent policy and oblerti￿$

Reserves poliry
The reserves policy of the charity is to maintain a fvnd that Is needed ¢0 support replacement items and maintenance In the
shops and ofFices. It is the trustees. ￿1c¥ to utilize all other available funds as soon as practicable in line wth the idontified
needs of the H05Pital. It is also the policy that all such reqL*sts are submitted to the trustee5 for consideration only after they
have been agreed as necessary by the Eslffjsenior man3gement.
Bearing ITr mind the low level of risk faced by the chatity. the tru5tee5 consTder that it is reasonable for the chartty to retain
£50,000 in reserve. This arnourlt is to cover a proportion ol annual general expenses and any shorttall in funds for the charlty's
main project or other cornmitments due to a fall in bequests or fundraising. The figu￿ is based on ihe charity's year
commitments to purchasing equipment and the main proieds. a5 well as 5a13ry Costs. insurance and offiie costs.
Structure. governance and management
The charity was established in 1953. haviftg previousty been known asThe Ea5tbourne H05Pitals Patients, A550ClatioTr estsblshed
in 1948, and Ès affiliated to AThEND. The charlry iscontrolled by itsgoverningdocumenL a deed oftru5t, and 15 an unincorporated
charity.
New trustees may be co-opted during the year, with their appoin￿ent ratthed by the membership at the following Annual
General Meetin& and tTiennially thereafter. All necessary familiarization procedures are frjllowed for new trustees. The
president. chairman and vice chairmar* are subject to appointment 2nd re2ppointsnent by the membership in accordance with
the trust deed. ITh addition. nominatstin5for811 positions are invited from the membership prior to each Annval General Meeting.
The trustees form the Exeojtive Committee whFch makes all policy decis¥ons and oversees the actry¥t*s of the charity. Sub-
comrnittees are created on an ad hoc basis and are led by trustees who ￿k>ort back to the regular meeting of the Executive
Committee. The Executive Committee is ioine(I regularty by a senior rnember of the EsTrrr main board.

Support costs have been allocated between govemance costs and other sUPPOrt costs. Govemance costs comprise all
