JSC ANNUAL REPORT 2021
I am pleased to present my annual report of the John Smith’s Charity for the 2021 year. Our work has continued apace during what can only be described as a very difficult year due to the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic.
The trustees have met on a quarterly basis through the medium of Zoom meetings. Whilst this format is less satisfactory than face to face meetings the trustees have met the challenge presented by this type of meeting and have embraced this technological advance with enthusiasm.
Park Farm. We enjoy an excellent relationship with our tenant Colin Miles and I am pleased to report that no issues have arisen this year. I know that Colin would welcome visits from the trustees once we are free of Covid.
Forestry. We have a very good working relationship with our contractor Nick Jones. Covid restrictions hampered his work a lot and this and the adverse weather conditions in the Autumn caused delays to the post felling clearance and replanting plans. I am pleased to report that work did eventually get done and the broadleaf trees have now been planted.
Almshouses. Maintenance and repair work has continued this year against an exceedingly difficult background of Covid19 restrictions. We have found it hard to get tradespeople to commit to the works we wanted done and there have also been access to property issues which have delayed projects. We did manage to get the tall chimneys removed which was a relief and the shed roofs replaced as well as a host of minor works.
Administration. I am delighted to report that the trustees have continued to work well on behalf of the charity with commitment and enthusiasm and I thank them for their support. Our clerk, Caroline Kinkead-Weekes, has done heroic work in the face of Covid related difficulties and again I wish to record my gratitude to her. I think her crowning achievement has been to get the charity onto online banking.
