Chairman’s Report to the Annual General Meeting 27th March 2025

## The 2025 Annual General Meeting

In 2024, we welcomed Ben Doggett as our new trustee. Ben joined the trust after David Town retired after serving over 40 years as a trustee. David’s help and advice will be missed. During the year, the Hatch Charity has continued to support the residents of Lenham and these grants are detailed below. The Christmas Gift scheme was updated with 135 residents receiving a gift of £25,00,

In 2016, the trustees agreed to designate £2500 for a hardship fund for local residents of Lenham who had short-term difficulties and a cash payment would relieve their shortage of cash. This year, there have been no applications, but we continue to support the vicar with funds for disadvantaged residents of Lenham who require short-term local support.

It has been agreed that the charity would support local teenage pupils who wish to go on overseas trips to help in social and educational projects An initial sum of up to £2500 will be ringfenced for this purpose. In 2024 a grant of £1000 was awarded to a pupil to go to Borneo to improve facilities at a school in July 2025 he has agreed to attend our November meeting to inform the trustees of the benefits of this initiative.

Mr Michael Moore has continued the upkeep of the Hatch Family Grave for 2024 at a cost of £1700. During the year it was reported that the boundary box hedge has been affected by box blight. It was agreed that this hedge should be replaced by either replanting with a different species or replacing the metal fence that existed up until 1940. It was agreed to get costs for both suggestions to decide in the spring meeting,

The grants paid to organisations including the Christmas Gift Scheme for 2024 were agreed upon at a total cost of £14,171.00.

£5000.00 Total Grants £21,746.00

The afternoon tea project where Kent Loves provides afternoon teas for residents of Lenham is still proving popular, and this is appreciated by the recipients of the teas. It was agreed to introduce a voucher scheme and the chairman would consult Kent Loves to discuss how this could work.

We were pleased to provide the funds to the nursery school to install a new climbing frame to replace the broken frame so the children could continue to enjoy this type of equipment.

We continue to support the Lenham Lift scheme by providing funds to cover their administration in arranging transport to and from the hospital.

The trust also supported Lenham Wanderers Football Club with funding towards setting up an under 11 years junior team

A grant was given to the REME to remember the 80 year anniversary of the bombing of the REME tank brigade workshop whose soldiers are interned in Lenham Cemetery.

The trust has now obtained an estimate and the necessary permissions to have the War Memorial by the entrance to the church cleaned and carry out a minor repair that may be required, this work will be completed in the spring of 2025

After many months of trying to obtain the required factuality, the Lenham British Legion standards were installed in the roof at the west end of St Mary’s Church I would like to thank the churchwarden Brian Parfitt and others for their help.

The Hatch gave a grant of £5000 to help support to St Mary’s for the Hub Project.

I think we would all agree that 2024 had been a good year, We have continued to support the village's residents and organisations and ensured that the Hatch Charity is financially sound showing that re-investing our Investment with M&G Charafund was the correct decision and will allow the trust to be able to increase the support we can give to the residents of Lenham over the coming years.

I thank all the trustees for their continued support.
