## Hinckley and District Mencap Society Trustees annual report 2024

Following our AGM On 5 th October 2024 we again celebrated a good year for the Society. The clubs have a core of regular members, and have advertised to invite new members.

Financially we are again in an improved position to recent years. Our income from donations, the shop and hall rental has slightly exceeded expenditure, and with additional legacy income we now have a modest reserve for upcoming building maintenance expenses. We are also able to replace our aged & failing, but popular (& expensive), pool table, for the clubs, and continue to offer a number of social activities including crafts, walks to the local pub, visits from Pets as Therapy petting animals, taking part in the local Christmas Tree festival, and taking a group to the pantomime. We also appreciate the Hinckley &Rugby Building Society team providing us with a Christmas party once more.

We have a good core of volunteers for the shop and clubs, and again have Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme volunteers. We also have a new secretary whose work is contributing hugely to all the organising that the above activities require, and will be having our First aid course for the majority of volunteers very shortly. We hope our current level of activities can continue in the near future

## **STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS**

**FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024**

**HINCKLEY & DISTRICT MENCAP SOCIETY**

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of ‘Hinckley & District Mencap Society’.**

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] March 2024, which are set out on pages 1 to 3.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act), as amended by section 28 of the Charities Act 2006 and that an independent examination is needed.

## It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts (under section 145 of the Act); and

- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under

- section 145(5)(b) of the Act as amended); and

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act; and

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements

- of the Act

have not been met; or

- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **HINCKLEY AND DISTRICT 'MENCAP' SOCIETY**
