Hinckley and District Mencap Society Trustees annual report 2022

This year we resumed activities towards the Society’s aims of providing social clubs and activities for adults with learning disabilities.

The social clubs on Monday Evening and Thursday afternoon and evening were able to restart in summer, after some hard work by club leaders in contacting former members by letter and phone.

We began with a handful of former members attending and now are up to around 20 members a night. The groups enjoyed parties for Halloween and Christmas, and enjoyed a walk to the town centre to visit the church Christmas tree festival. We hope to continue seeing returning and new members this year.

We retained enough returning volunteers to run the club and shop, and have several new ones, and are still actively advertising for more volunteers. Going forward we are planning a first-aid course for them early next year.

The garage jumble sales and the card shop are thriving with very committed volunteers and provide most of our funding, together with renting out the hall which has resumed following Covid restrictions. Although still missing a secretary due to Ill-health,we have been fortunate in the huge amount of work put in by our treasurer and our chairman in maintaining the building and managing the finances , and we are currently financially stable with a small reserve at present.
