a settlement dated 9 December 1938.

When planning our acitvilles for the year. Trustees have consldered the Gh8rtry
Commission's guidance on public benefil. In pa￿'Cular the Trustees adq)t the follcmlng
approach..

proces9es we have adopled wcrtt lo the besl benefit ol the neety of Newcastle.

The Trustees have been able to meet monthly lo conslder applications for support throughout the Year.
Ourlnll the year the Trustees made 238 awards to indivtduals tolalling £44.534 and a number of awards
to org8nisationG amounting lo a total valu8 of £7,240 (representing an Increase in numbers and value
comp8red to 20231. These ranged from financial support to the Moth2rs Union for the organisalion of
short breaks al Ihe coast for vulnerable families, providing the Chaplaincy al the RVI with funds lo
provlde one off ad hoc small value payments foT people arriwng a18ccidenl and emergen¢y with no
funos for relreshmenlsltransport home etc lo the provlslon of Larpets, nooring and Nyhite good• tg
individuals in need where the proV1&c￿ of a fn.dge or washing machine would have a significanl Impact
their day to day livcslgeneral wel￿beIng. However, due lo a s￿nifICant inGreaJe in the Gosl of ￿rtain
ttems provide¢ by Ihe NewGastle Fumilure 8Nvlce, lo maximise the nvmber of appli￿nts who were able
to receive support a number of -high value, nonw8ssential items. have b8en removed from the li51 of
items where funding would be fflade availablo.

Following discussions with the Evelyn Partners (Ihe pothlio managers) the Charlty's investment
portfolio was 8djustedlrealigned in the final quarter of 2023 to Imr￿Ve the levels of income from th8
investments.
The investment incorna from the Portfolio inctsased from £36,695 in 2023 10 £42,708 in 2024. This was
the highest levol rec6ived since 2013. The financial markets have contlnued to be Impactèd bocause of
the wars in Ukraine and the middlg east and the continuing high inl8r@st ral8s. Th888 national and olobal
events have impacted the incorne availatAe for distribution and increased the numbers of those in n8ed
of support in the Cfty. The Trustees wai contsnue lo work dosety with Evetyn Partners lo ensure that It
m8int8ins incc￿ne levels from the Investment Portfolio wthin *Jreed risk and ipwestments strategies.
Recognising Ihe importance ol supwting th8 n8edy and vulnerable of Newcastle and the volume of
applications for assistance bein9 received the Charily has conlinued lo maintain the level of grwt
awards above the generated annual income IMJt overall resources.
The Twsiees receive monthly financlal updates on the funds avallable so that Ihey can maximise the
number of awards made whilst ensuring th8t all L¥)mmitmenls can be met. As a result of successftd
budget monitoring the I ru6tees are able lo ensure that funds of cheques that are not pres8nièo by
r8CiPl8nls of support from the Charty cw be used to fund new aprA[Cat￿n$ that ar8 received dunng the
year. There is also c8refiJl scruty'ny of each ap￿1¢allon received so that those in most need are allocated
re60ur¢o8 whilgt olhws might not ro¢0iv• lh• l•vds of supprKt r8quèstèd. Applieationq whère 3 person
has a regular income from paid employThent and thwr financial siluation is considered adequate are not
supported.

In 2024 the levels of income from the investment income from th8 investm8nl portfolio has increased
ompared lo returns in Tecenl yedf5.
Tru$tee5 have considered the guldance producad by tho Charity Commlsslon on tho provislon of public
benenl and they confirm that public benefrt h88 been provided by the range of 8Ctivities as desctibed
above.

In line wlth guidance of the independenl inveslmenl manAgers. Ihe res•.rve8 pnlicy Is to hold
the equivalenl of approximately 1 year ol income (al presenl levels) wtihin the "Accumulation of
Income. in order lo sustsin financial support in the event of a major reductlon in investment
dividends. At the 31 December 2024 the unrestricted r&8erves were £25,46012023.' £37,097)
an¢Y is equivalent to approximately 9 monlhs of Income. This ￿lleY tontinues to be kept und8r
revi8w and will b8 r8visit@d during 2025.
Investment Ineom•
To keep Ihe investment portfdio under regular review, particularly followng recelpt of the
quarterfy report and valuallon from the independ￿1 investment managers.
The primary policy is lo maintain a diverse balance b8hv88n bond. 8quily, property and cash
holdings in order to provide a level of income whilst securing capital growth.
6. Plans For Future Periods
The Trustees expect to continue the aCtiv￿.eS of th8 chanty in acc(Ydance wrth their current objecaives,
assisting 85 people as the lutmls available lo them will allow.
