## **W W Presco)’s Charity** ## **Charity Number: 214933** ## **Trustees Annual Report 2025** ## **IntroducEon:** The Trustees of the charity are Rev. Clive Larsen Ms Janet Mobbs (SMBC) Ms Lynn Brandwood (Re:dish) Ms Rachel Wise Rev Miles Howarth Mr Sean Bagguley Mr Colin Barson Pleased to provide this report on the work to the summer of 2025. The report will detail the Financial situaKon alongside the income and expenditure of the charity. The report will inform on the public benefit of the charity and seek to address the future direcKon of the charity. The major themes of the Trustees work has been to recruit new members of the commiOee and to establish working arrangements. In addiKon the consKtuKonal arrangements need to be brought into line with modern arrangements for the management of the charity, this will be through working with the charity commission and partners. The charity is being managed to meet the needs of its beneficiaries to relieve the poverty of those of greatest need. The 6 almspeople have specific needs within our modern society and the charity works with partners to idenKfy those with needs of homelessness and poverty. The original consKtuKon of 1878 leaves the trustees with the burden of idenKfying those in need in the twenty first century which adds difficulKes to this task, hence the need to reform the consKtuKonal arrangements. The trustees aim to deliver a new consKtuKon during the 2025/6 period to alleviate the requirements to meet the original aims of the charity which was wriOen during a very different Kme. ## **Objects:** The objects of the charity are to maintain and provide for those in need of relief as a result of poverty. The charity maintains 6 almshouses in the township of Reddish. Originally this covered the modern areas of Reddish, Denton and Bredbury. The Almshouses are now fully in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport hence the need to redefine the area within the objects clause. The trustees are charged with maintaining the land for use of the charitable objects. ## **Trustees:** The trustees for the year 2024/5 fall within the 9 places available. 3 Ex officio, 3 represenKng the Anglican communiKes and 3 from Stockport MBC and Tameside MBC. There are 2 places for co-opted members. The places have not been filled for many years but the trustees conKnue to negoKate with the represented bodies within the consKtuKon. They are meeKng the needs of relief of poverty within the borough of Stockport. The trustees are appointed on a four year cycle. Trustees aOempt to hold two meeKngs each year with special meeKngs requiring four days noKce. The quorum is four trustees and a minute book is held. Trustees are able to make regulaKons to ensure the efficient and effecKve management of the Almshouses. ## **Appointment of Almspeople:** Almspeople are appointed to the properKes based upon being of good character, being in need of relief and requiring support through old age, ill health and infirmity within the geographical areas within the consKtuKon. It is impossible to uKlise the original definiKons within the consKtuKon of 1878 as many legislaKve changes have occurred. The Trustees aim to work with the charity commission to change the consKtuKon within the next few years. It is likely that the new objects will seek to reflect modern needs of poverty, including mental ill health, those who are dispossessed and those with other issues of poverty. ## **Public Benefit:** The Charity seeks to meet its obligaKons of public benefit in all it does. The provision of homes for those in need is a charitable objecKve. This enables people to maintain their own independence and live in a safe environment. The trustees make decisions based upon the needs of the people being served in addiKon to maintaining the buildings which are listed at grade 2. There are no benefits other than to he Almspeople. No trustee takes any benefit for being a Trustee. Decisions are based upon the needs of those living within the small community. The charity charges a rental commensurate with the homes provided and offer where possible addiKonal benefits such as support t purchase furniture etc. The Trustees make every effort to ensure the community of Almspeople have well maintained homes, an environment that is posiKve and external space to enjoy. ## **ApplicaEon of income:** The Trustees apply all income to maintain the buildings both internally and externally for the benefit of the Almspeople. The Trustees ensure the effecKve management of the funds through a policy of work and a policy of reserves to cover all eventualiKes. ## **Future Planning:** During this year the Trustess have invested in external space, developing the area for the enjoyment of the Almspeople. Links have been made with partners to ensure we recruit the right people into the properKes. It is intended to conKnue to invesKgate the consKtuKonal arrangements and to build the experKse of the charity to meet its obligaKons under current buildings regulaKons. It is envisaged that the charity commission will be requested to sign schemes of work for he trustees to conKnue to develop the charity for the benefit of the buildings and residents. ## **Financial Statement:** Beth Royle (BA Hons) 21 Gill Street Stockport SK1 21lQ To whom it may concern, I can confirm that I have reviewed the bank statements for the following account: **Prescotts Charity Business Account, Nat West Bank PLC Account No: 84424214 Sort Code: 01-08-38** Between the following dates: **10/06/24 to 09/06/25.** I can confirm that the accounts appear to be in order, according to the explanation given to me at the time of the audit. I have no concerns to raise, but I have made two auditor notes below. The detailed breakdown of income and expenditure can be found on the following page. Please note that where investment income has been received, I have not reviewed any of the investments made on behalf of Prescotts. ## Auditor Notes ## 1. Supporting Documents I am advised that there are partial printed bills, receipts or invoices for this period, as most expenditure for the alms houses is now done online. Therefore, I have reviewed what supporting documents were provided, but these were incomplete. Where an invoice or evidence has been provided, I have indicated this in the notes column on the spreadsheet. This audit is therefore just a review of the income and expenditure of the bank account, over the given period. ## 2. Expenses A small number of transactions were described as expenses, however no further explanation was provided. I recommend that more detailed explanation is provided for expenses going forward. An Excel spreadsheet of all the income and expenditure through the bank account has also been provided for your convenience.
