The FalkId Hall Charity (RwNo213532) Report for Ihe year Janvary to December 2025 The Falkland Hall was originally buili as a large merchant house in 1558 by Edmund Stlvester. It became the Falkland HaIl at around the time it was sold by the Recreation Society to the Town InStite in 1920. Over the years the ground floor was used as a hall for meetings and entertainmenL and the top floor was a Men s Institute. In the 1960's the Hall had become neglected the then Truste¢s commenced letting the building on a commercial b&sis. A new Tnjst scheme came into being in 1974 and ran until the present scheme was sealed on I l February 1985 as the Falkland Hall Charity. The title to the land and building is vested in the Official CustrKlian for Charities in trust for the Fajkland Hall Cl]arity Under the 1985 Charity Scheme, the Tne8 have the Option to use all or part of the buildtng as a community centre or lease the building for the Etst rent possible. The Trustees must firstly apply the charity's income in meeting the proper costs of admftnistering the charity and of managing its proFerty (including the repair and insurance of its buildings). After payment of these costs, the Trustees shall apply the trmaining income as they think fil for any charitsble purposes for the general benefit of the inhabitants of the Town of Burford and the neighbourhood thereof. A bank acwunt is held with TSB bank. Investments are held in funds with M&G Investments and CCLA COIF Charity Funds. The Exordinary Repair Fund is held within these investments. The commercial and resTdential lets are man28ed by Marriott's Property LLP Durin8 2025 the Trustees fulfilled the requirements of the charity scheme. The Trustees have engaged Pethers of Burford to strip and renovate the front roof of the Falkland Hall, work is scheduled to take place in Sprin8 of 2026. The Trustees have purchased The Old Barn. Swan Lane, Burford for conversion to a Community Archive Centre for the town, with a studio apartment providing income to make the project sustainable. Pethers of Burford startd the conversion in May 2021 and completed in November 2022 when the opening ceremony took place. Major support for the project has been received from West Oxfordshire District Council, Burford Town Council, Burford Festival, Burford & Districl Society, private Trust Funds, individuaI donors and a range of enthusiastic community fundtSing.
