The Falkland Hall Charity (Re&No213532) Report for the year January to December 2021 The Falkland Hall was originally built &8 a large merchant holl8e in 1558 by Edmund Silvester. It b¢cam¢ th¢ Falkland Hall at around the time it sold by the Recreation Society to the TOTr Institute in I0. Over the years the ground floor was wed &s a hall for meetings and entertainmenL and the top floor was a Men's Institute. In the 1960's the Hall had become neglected the then TnteeS commenced letting the buildin8 on a commercial basis. A new Trust scheme came into being in 1974 and ran until the present scheme was sealed on I 1° Febnwy 1985 &s the Falkland Hall Charity. The title to the land and building is vested in the Official cuclIan for Charities in ttlt for the Fall(land Hall Charity Under the 1985 Charity Scheme, the Tnistees have the option to use all or part of the building as a community centre or lease the building for the best rent w)ssible. The Trustees must firstly apply the charity's income in meettng the proper costs of administering the charity and of mana8in8 its pIDperty (including the pair and insurance of its buildings). After payment of these costs, the Trustees shall apply the remaining income they think fit for any charitable purposes for the general benefit of the inllabitants of the Town of Burford and the neighb)urhood thereof. A bank account is held with TSB bank. Investments are held in fimds with M&G Investsnents and CCLA COIF Charity Funds. The Extraordinary Repair Fund is held within these investments. The commercial let in managed by Marriott's Property LLP During ?021 the Trustees fulfilled the requirements of the charity scheme. The Trustees have purchased The Old Barn, Swan Lane, Burford for conversion to a Community Archive Centre for the tow with a studio apartment providing income to make the project sustainable. Pethers of Burford started the conversion in May 2021, completion is planned for mid-2022. . Major support for the project has been received from West Oxfordshire District Council, Burford Town Council, Burford Festival. Burford & District Society, private Trust Funds, individual donors and a nge of enthusiastic community fund]SIng.
