**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

The original objects of the Charity state that the Lord Mayor’s Poor and Distress Fund exists to make donations to deserving causes at the discretion of the Lord Mayor of Plymouth in accordance with bequests made in 1921, 1929 and 1943. The Charity receives annual interest on these bequests. 

The Charity acts as a fund which receives donations made to the Lord Mayor by local organisations, schools, businesses etc and the receipts from the annual Lord Mayor’s Carol Service.

The Charity exists to benefit: 

- Children/Young People 

- Elderly/Old people  People with disabilities  Other charities or voluntary bodies 

It does this by making donations to other charitable organisations. 

Each year the Lord Mayor nominates up to three charities for whom they will raise funds during the year. The proceeds from such fundraising events are paid into the Lord Mayor’s Special Fund and then distributed by the Lord Mayor to their nominated charity(ies) towards the end of the municipal year. 

The Charity trustees have had due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

In 2021/22 the Lord Mayor’s chosen charities were NSPCC and **Summary of the main** Bowel Cancer West. **achievements of the charity during the year** 

The Lord Mayor ran several fundraising events during the year including  Burns Night Supper on 29 January 2022,  Dinner Dance on 18 November 2021  Curry night on 11 March 22.  British Fireworks Championship on 18 August 21.  The annual Lord Mayor’s Carol Service.  Funds were also raised through charity collection tins positioned at various Council properties. At the end of the year, the available funds were then donated to the charity identified by the Lord Mayor.
