Notes to the Financial Statements
For The Year Ended 31 December 2025
l. General Information
The Friends of Tewkesbury Abbey is an unincorporated charity registered with the Charity Commission, registered charity number
211236. The principal address is The Abbey Office, Tewkesbury Abbey. Tewkesbury. Gloucestershire. GL20 SRZ.
2. Accounting Policies
2.1. Basis of Preparation ol Flnanoal Statements
The financial statements have been prepared in accordante with the Charities SORP (FRS 1021 'Accounting and Reporting by
Charities.. Statement of Recommended PracbtÈ appIl￿ble to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial Reporknng Standard applicable in the UK an¢J Republic of Irelancl IFRS 1021 leffective 1 january 20191" Financial
Reporting Standard 102 Yhe Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland. and the Charities Act
2011.
The charity is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
2.2. Incoming Resources
Donatyons, gifts and legacie5 represent &rnounts re￿1Ved during the year. together wtth any associated tax refund.
Donations for specific purposes are ¢xedited to the ststement of financial activities in the year in which they are received.
Unspent balances are carried forward to subsequent years within restricted funds. Tax refLJnds are ￿cogniSed ivhen the
incoming resource to whSch they ￿late is received.
Life subscriptions re￿ived are allocated to Ststement of Finanoal Achvities in the year In which they are recoved.
Annual subscriptions together with lJ)e appropriate tax repayment a￿ treated as income at the knme they are due.
2.3.Going Concern Disclosure
The fin6ncial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis. The Trustees have considered the charity's available
resources, expected investment income, anticipated voluntary income and the level of planned gront expenditure for at least
twelve months from the date of approval of these financial statements. On that basis. the Tnjstees consider that there are no
material uncertainties atx)ut the charity's ability to conty.nue as a going concern.
2.4.Stgnificant Judgements and estlmatlons
In the preparation of these financial statemenL%. the Trustees ao required to make judgements, estimate5 and a55umptions
that affect the reported amounts of income, expendthre. assets and liabilitie5.
The most significant area of judgement is in detem)ining whether income, pa￿Cula￿v legary income, should be recognised in
the Statement of Financial Artivities. Recognition is based on the p)*nt at which entitlement is established, receipt is prob3ble
and the amount can be measured r￿lably.
The Trustees do not consider there to be any key sources of estimation uncertainty at the reporting date that would glve r(se
to a material adjustment trj the carying amounts of assets and liabilities within the next financial year.
2.5, Resources Expended
Liabilities are recognised as expendSEure as soon as there is a legal or constsijcbve obligation cornmitting the charity to the
expenditure. All expenditure is accounted for on an accrua15 basis.
Govern3nce costs comprise the costs of running the charty and all costs involving the public accountability of the charity and
its compliance with regulations aThJ good practi￿. These costs indude the costs of the preparation an¢J examination of
statutory accounts.
Grant expenditure is ￿L￿gnised only when the grants are paid. Grants approved for payment in future years are transferred
to a designated fund in the year in which they are approved and included in the balance sheet as Designated Fund future
grnnts until they are paid.
All other expenditure is generally recognised when it is incurred and is accounted for gross.
2.6. Investments
Investments listed on a recognised stock market exchange are stste¢J at mid-market value in the balance sheet. All
movements in value arising from investsnent changes and revaluations are included ift the Staternent of Financial Artivit(es.
2.7. stocks and Work in Progress
stocks and work in progress are Val￿ed at the kjwer of cost and net realisable value after making dije allowance for ob501ete
and slow-moving stocks.
Cost is deterniined using the first-in. first-out method. Cost includes all dirEct Costs and an appropryate proportion of fixed
an¢J variable overheads.
Wort( in prooress is reflerted in the accounts on a contrart by contract basis by recording tumover and related costs as
contract activity progresses.
At the end of eath reporbng period Stocks are asspssed for impaiment. If an item of stock 15 impaired, the identified stock is
redU￿d to its selling price les5 Costs to complete and sell and an impairnient charge 15 recognised in the statement of
