YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The Charity is a Charitable Trust and is governed by a Trust Deed dated 26 November 1960. The object of the Charity, as set out in the Charity Commission, is capital and income applicable for such charitable purposes as the trustees in their discretion decide.
The Trustees declare they have complied with the duty in Section 4 of the 2006 Act to have due regard to guidance on public benefit published by the Commission.
The Charity’s specific aims currently are:
-
Educate and inform the public about nature, wildlife, food & nutrition.
-
Teach people how to grow healthy nutritious food
-
Enhance health & wellbeing through access to true nature
-
Provide habitat for indigenous wildlife to help reverse species extinction
-
Research gardening techniques with the potential to restore soil health and store atmospheric carbon to mitigate climate change
With this in mind the charity has taken steps towards this through the purchase of land to be rewilded for nature, and accessible by the local community. This land will provide public benefit through horticultural therapy, teaching food growing, provision of nutritious local organic food, and volunteering opportunities outdoors in nature.
In Winter 2024, following completion of the land purchase, we welcomed our first volunteers and began planting the new wildlife habitat.
FINANCIAL REVIEW AND RESERVES
The Charity received a donation of £240,000 from a party connected with a trustee. The Charity incurred expenses in the year of £16,761. Land was purchased totalling £855,861 with the assistance of a loan from a trustee and the donation funds, for the purpose of furthering the charity’s objectives.
