The members of the Council of Management submit tt*ir rep(￿t and the financial ststements of the
Forum for the year ended 31 December 2025.
Structurn. Governance and Alanagement
The Adelphi Genetics Forum (the Forum). was 8s a ccmpany limited by guarantee on
the 15th November 1926, and was registered the Chartty Commission in 1960 with whom its
registration number is 209258. The goveming d0￿ment of the Forum dated 24 May. 1961 was
r8plac8d in 2024 ty an am8nded Artides of Asscrfyation vthich was adopted by a special resolution
P8ssed 8t a Gener81 Meeting of the members held on 20 March. 2024. On 21 September 2021 the
Galton Institute changed its name to the Adelphi Genetics Forum. Durin9 the year our General
Secretary retir￿1 and Mrs Rulh Matthews was appoint&J in her the.
Objecllves and Activities
The Forum exists to promot8 publTrc und6rstanding of Ihe 8(xen(% of human hèredity,. its historical
development and its impact on cognate disciplines. Th8 principal means of achieving these
objectives are the holding of an annual conferenc8 and a biennial teachers conferen￿, the
publication of the Adelphi Review, sponsorship of relevant o)nferenc4s, publication of booklets on
topical themes in the ts'osocial sciences. wblication of occasional to)ks. trav61 bursaries for
r8S8arch students. small grants cOnfW￿ organisers. suppc*t for a PhD st￿lantshiP and the
malntenance of a website.
Publlc Benefft Statement
When planning the activilies the T￿￿188$ have had regard to the Charity commi￿on'8 Guldan
on the publlc benefit of the Forum's activities in particular the 8dvancem8nt of publlc education in
appropriate areas of knthvledge.
Conferences and Publkatlons
During the year the Forum organlsed a large ojnference with a number of guest speakers at the
Royal Society on the 23 October 2025. entitled Populat￿ Genomic Screening - Exploring its
Complexitiès. The Forum published tVKJ issues of th8 Adelphi Rewew durlng the yèar.
Grant A￿T￿3
The Forum makes small grants kn ¢Mferences and VK)rkslh)ps and it cu￿entlY budgets £8.000 for
such grants each year. Up to iwo Junior Scientist Travel Felkjvships (each being £750 in total) ar8
also available and are COwSP)nsored wilh the Genetics Society. The availability of grants is
advertlsed on the Forum's website. Each application is r8Vi8wed by a committee of Trustees and,
subject to th8 avallabilty of furKlirwJ, appmved If the prq)osed conferenc8 is exFeCted to further the
Forum's aims.

Future Developments
The Forum will hold their Biennial Teachers Conference on 26 June 2026 at the Nowgen Centre
in Manchester. The theme of the tsiks will b8 Further Advances in Genetics. The Forum plans
to hold its annual rA)nference at the Royal Society in the autumn on 22 October 2026. This will be
entitled Complexty of Neural Function- the brnin in charge.
The Forum will publlsh further issues of ts Adelphi Review In the year.

The net expenditure for the year before gains and losses on investments was (£22,563) and th8
Géneral Fund at 31 December 2025 amounted to £4.279,448 compared to £4,506,770 at 31
December 2024. Realised and unrealised losses of £204,759 arose because ofthe change In market
value of th8 investments that arè rnanag8d by th8 CCLA Fund Managws.
Res•rves polky
The Forum's pclicy is to maintain sufficient reserves to ensure that it is able to meet its running costs
from the retum on its investments without retying on either subscnptions or extemal fund-raising.
Risk assessment
The Council has assessed the risks to which tho F(xum is exwsed and is satisfied that Systems in
place are adequate to mitigate those risks that would threaten the long-term survival of the
F¢)rum. The Council is content that oth8r risks shwkj be a￿￿pted because the cost of mitigating
them w¢)uld be unacceptable.

The financial statements have been prepared in acCQrdan￿ wilh the Charities SORP 2019
(FRS102) - Acrx)unting and Rep(Kting by Charities: Stat￿nant of Recommended Practice and
appllcable United lQngdom law and accounting standards.
The Forum meets the definilion of a public b8nefft entity under FRS 102.
The finanaal statements have been prepared under the historical cost convents'on, with tha
exception of investrnents which are induded at market value. and in accordance with applicable
accounting standards.

these costs are aLrounted for by work gtven freety by the Trust88s. To attempt to cost this

Govemance costs are those costs assoLiated wlth mèeting the constftutlonal and statutcry
requirements of the charity arKI indude fees of the Ir)dependent Examiner and costs linked lo the
strateglc management of the charty. These have been 8lk)cated directly to charitable
expenditure.

Realised gains and losses in the ststement of finandal act]vibes represent gains and lows by

The Forum has overall control over and uttimate tesKM)nsibility for the assets of the Adelphi
Artemis Tnjst (the Trust). The latter trust was established i)n 17 July 1978 to admlnlstèr the assets
of The Soaety for C￿strUCtIve Birth Control Limited whith was 11quidat￿l at that time. The Trust
Deed provides that the incorne arKI assets of the Trust be applied to -preserv8 and protect the
physical and mentsl health of people. particularty but not only those from Frt￿er communities by
assisling in the provision of fertilty control and other measur8S to improve reproductive and
sexual health." The Forum provldes s￿retaria1 and administraove servicth to the Trust for which
it is reimbursed at costs.
The total amount of suth servKes in the year was £7.134 (2024: £7.946). At the year end the
Trust owed the Forum £7.134 (2024. £7.946).
The Trust's net expenditure for the year was £35.089 (2024: Nel incom8 £25,262) including
£34,995 of unrealised investment losses {2024: £16.150 of unre8llsed Investrnent galns), net
assets at the year end wer8 £745,462 (2024: £780.551).
As pemiitted by Charities SORP 2019 {FRS 1021. consolhlat8d accounts are not prepared as the
Forum is a company and th8 Combined income ofthe linked ch8rrties is below the audit threshold.
